''The Forest lacks / Too many caves / Not enough content''
I started a new run after release and i decided to cave properly this time , i completed 4 caves so far and i really enjoyed it , i dont rush it anymore , always stock up and look for everything (EVERYTHING)
Only now have i started to properly app the caves , i know i dont have numbers on my side lol

This run i want to do everything and see all The Forest has to offer - exploration , horror , survival and building , not just building and samurai training , maybe its just me , but playing on a slower pace , doing 1 cave at a time in the order that i find them and not rushing anything made the whole playthrough alot more enjoyable to me (and i actually app having better items after finding one, instead of getting all top tier items first day )

I think that in many cases , its the player not taking The Forest for what it is and trying to treat/play it as a pure building / nature survival game which is not // thats why some players still say the world lacks or ''feels empty '' ,thats because HALF of the work is underground which is ignored by pretty much half the players we have . sadly .. its not the game ''lacking'' .. its the players only playing half of it ..

Its actually really cool trying to understand a cave after you clear it , they all look really mazey but they are actually real nice shortcuts throughout the map if you pay a little attention

Personally i think that quickly rushing for the best items early game ruins half of the games experience , getting you bored and shortening (if thats a word lol ) ur runs life span ..

I 100% agree that there should be a little more above ground as many say/ask for , but i highly encourage you all to give caving a 2nd try without judgement , just do it for what it is , the whole thing not just the quickest way to ur item and out ..

Doing it like this made me enjoy caving instead of seeing it as a chore , im just exploring a cave not trying to rush my way through the whole island in one day so i get all i need in order to seclude myself to one small part of the map where i can build boxes for 20 days until i get bored , start over and say The Forest lacks ..

You really don't even need a base, that part is more or less for fun. But even if you did everything and stretched it out in this game it's roughly a 20 hour run tops ........... From a group of 4 people over a span of years ........ I've seen better from a single teenager.

Edit -> So no people aren't saying it lacks content because they are getting lost in the rather basic and fairly broken building aspect, there just plain isn't much to do and it's a very short game.

People always massively exaggerate how low a games play time can be. Im at 30 hours and probably havent explored half of the caves, and i certainly havent done half of what you can do with building thins aboveground.

Making games or playing games, it's different for everybody. There are big teams that put out worse quality products than this for whatever reason and there are always going to be people who claim they can beat a game super fast/too easy/blah blah blah as if that means something to anyone else's enjoyment of the game. Especially if the game has a reputation for being tough or scary. I bet the Cuphead threads are full of such claims.

They're meaningless comparisons. There are a lot of people here who love the game and get a lot of mileage out of it. Our enjoyment of the game doesn't help the dissatisfied any, so why should it work the other way around?

You can see all content under 20hours but you need 2 things.
1. console commands
2. guide that explains which command to use in order to see everything fast and get everything

For normal players who don't use console/guide it would be 40-60H to see all content depending how fast they do it and taking into account that they target to see the content :V

If they don't target content then it will take longer to see everything.

Also 1H to beat story is for weak speedrunners :D
Completing hard mode in 30-40min is good time (you have to start in good landing location tho, but when you speedrun then you take it into account to spawn in good location)
If you use turtle sled then you can cut it even more.

I started a new perma death hardcore survival complete play through of the game for story/lore/completionist. So far I'm 8-10 days in and have just completed every cave except end game cave.
Recording/Uploading it all as well. I meticulously search each cave for any changes.

So yes I agree 100%
To many ppl just skip all caves then complain about lack of content. I find the cave system is pretty awesome. I think I will get VR just for that reason lol.

side question
Has anyone beat the boss on either hard mode with one life? (Spamming bombs shouldn't count)

I'm going to attempt melee only with a couple poison coated weapons to slow it down. I think it will be a real challenge.
I've never been a fan of the spear tossing :).

games way to pricey for a 15 minute game he walked to the end and didn't use glitches or hacks or cheats? nice AI game design and he also says that the official game has no audio he added it all in? what are people paying for? why the price hike i don't fund or support or sponsor 3D which was the only thing added with price hike why is the official release a crash master? i watched broadcasters play and after steam refund period expired there game crashed and lost every single bit of progression live and then rage quit nice quality control
What the hell you talking about.....

He did use a glitch lol, he jumped into the sinkhole. There is no way you can get to end game in 15 legit. Maybe 30-45min+.
Also bringing speed runs of any kind to a content related post is just dumb.

the guy who made undertale all by himself.

the guy who made owlboy by himself.

it's not that hard.

Hoooooly crap.
You're comparing a simple pixel game
https://store.steampowered.com/app/391540/Undertale/

to full blown 3d world game.

Now, programming even a "simple" 2d pixel game is rather difficult (speaking from experience).

I realize the tarded newgen keedz these days have zero appreciation and understanding of how the world works, but since it is so simple to do, I challenge you to

program the simplest game - PONG.

Wow look at all of that.

@Wuyek and adding on to Roadie's list
+Unturned - Despite it's cartoony graphics it's definitely the most popular f2p survival game on steam. Though I think he did hire another guy to help out beyond V3.

Eclipse
Speedruns are great for this actually, since they don't get sucked into oops a cannibal broke my wall so I better fix and reinforce it (Time sinks.)

Wariat
Only one speedrun was 1hr and I merely listed it since it was a post release video, you want better quality videos spend more than the 10 seconds I spent searching. Also you need console commands to know where to go next why? Surely you meant google "Forest map" and oila. xD

Iceki
I agree it feels like little got done. I just tried this a couple/few months ago and a bunch of the issues my group had are still there, with some new ones to boot, and lower over all performance.

Gottaramble
You should get to the exploring. Once you get geared with katana and such it'll be over before ya know it.

Ghostlight
My dude, that's a really strange choice of survival game to spend so much time in. What do you do, RP a lonely old man on his porch or something?

I think that about wraps that up, took longer to post this than build a base in this game. xD

To be honest though purposely dragging out the base vs cannibals portion of the game doesn't really count as "content." Like if a racer thinks the last race of Need For Speed is worth re-doing 1500 times that doesn't mean it's 1500*3 minutes of content. Just means he really enjoys repeating that 3 minutes of content.

Edit -> I'm just gonna drop this here
