The game delivers a vastly different experience depending on what mode you pick.
Playing solo the game is much more horror-oriented and focussing on the ambience.
Being alone changes a lot to how you play and approach the game and also how you feel playing it.
I regulary get goosebumps when playing alone, as i know its only me against the Forest. Playing Solo is so more leaning towards a Horror-Survival Experience.
Playing in MP, meaning coop, with lets say one friend takes a lot away from the Horror and focusses more on exploration, crafting, building and survival.
Sure you do all of that also in solo, but in my eyes not as much as in MP. And since you know you have support, the creepiness goes mostly away. Not entirely but a big portion of it.
Theres no really consequence to losing.
So playing MP the game leans more towards the classical Crafting-Survival Experience.
Picking your mode so decides a bit on what you can expect from the game to deliver.
Sure every player is different and maybe there are people playing singleplayer without being creeped even a tiny bit and just run around MLG-No-scoping Mutants. But in my experience the game alternates its focus in both modes as described above.
Which is, and i cant stress this enough, one of the best things i have witnessed so far in a game.
It is able to deliver all of that without losing anything.
Most people are afraid that a lot gets lost when adding multiplayer, but here you really get a different experience and if you want the creepyness, just play single.
