Boat key and arifact

the boat door key is called a gold key card and was aready in my inventory along with the old key card for end game. My question is i unlocked the boat door and retrived the artifact inside, but what am i suppose to do with it?? i can equip it but it can't be thrown or used as a weapon? any idea's ??

I think you need that artifact to get into the lab now.
