I want it to be ingame, officially, the exact reason why im asking is because i dont want to download external programs to fix stuff that the devs could easily fix. If i downloaded an external app for a fix in a game i wanted to play my pc would be bloated with crap i barely use.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Glossary:Borderless_fullscreen_windowed#Unity

Just pass that command into "Set launch options..." for this game and done.

its in the game actually... i was toying with the launch options and noticed when you click windowed, and have it at 1680x1050 go ahead and start the game. it will look funky, but just continue to the options page, display, go to resolution and click on it to change it to 1920x1080 while having full screen OFF.

i have NO idea why the devs cant add 1920x1080 as one of the options. guess they hate us borderless fullscreen windowed players :(
hope this helps!

The forest is a unity game, so the unity window mode command does exactly that. Just add "-window-mode borderless" to the lauch options/arguments and choose your native resolution and "fullscreen" on the unity launcher.

-popupwindow -screen-height 1080 -screen-width 1920

then

Check Windowed in the launcher. Doesn't matter which resolution is selected. The one from above applies.

*since it's necroed anyway*
You don't need to check "windowed" in the launcher
Adding -screen-fullscreen 0 will do the job for you

make sure that in the game settings "fullscreen" isn't turned on

after I did this trick, it was still in fullscreen mode. turned it off in the in game settings and it went to borderless =D
-popupwindow -screen-height X -screen-width X

In Steam Launcher Settings
Windowed NOT checked at game startup box
Fullscreen OFF in game settings
