What happend to horde mode?

Hey im new to the game but i saw some videos of youtube, dated 2 years back about a Horde gamemode that was hidden in the games code, any idea what happend to that?

Fairly sure the artifact is more or less meant as a replacement of sorts for horde mode.

Find the artifact, set to to "red" mode, and stick it in the ground. There is your horde mode essentially.

...and if you manage to kill all the cannys that come when you stick it in the ground - wait a few minutes and you will get another bigger wave of cannys and the mutants ...good luck.
