Quickest way to get them is to let the cannibals kill you. They’ll drag you to the cave that has the map and compass in it. Then you can grab them and quickly climb out and run away because the rope to climb out is right next to where they leave you hanging. Don’t die again afterwards or else you’ll get a game over. You basically have 1 extra life, and it resets whenever you load your save.

If he doesn't already know where the map and compass, he probably doesn't know where the main cannibal village is xD
