The Forest
How to avoid so many monsters?
I am playing on the most difficult game setting. Anything less is far too easy for me. I play solo.

I am having only one huge difficulty in game. If any of you can help me out.

Hordes of monster. They just keep coming and coming troves! Day or night, both.
I have so far survived to day 40.

I have one main camp base; which is huge, and pretty decently defended. I was getting a LOT of monster attention every day and night there. Finally I moved on to explore and build a secondary camp base far away. And soon after I started building at this next location. Many monsters came again! Daily. Nightly. But this time I have almost no defences created yet at base. I just got here! lol.

It seems to be that every day gone by; the monsters spawn near me greater and great. Higher numbers and even mutants!

Sometime a Patrol group will come by and actually see me from far away.

How can I detour so many monsters from coming around?

I can barely even get out during the day time to collect sticks and stones! That is how many are always about. Sometimes I even see them just standing around in the middle of the woods. Just one, here, and there. But other times it is as if they spawn near to me out of nowhere!

So far; I am sharing my time between camps. I was thinking they might forget about me a bit, if I am almost never home.

After I kill a monster. I dump their bodies into the lake beside my second base (close by).

I built my second base 'very' near a few of their Effigies. And I smash them down time and again.

When I burn my fire at night; I have some 'wall' like visual protection.

My second base is sort of close to one of their Patrol lines.
(my first base was not)

I could really use some tips on how to better avoid monsters coming too close to my camps both in the day, as well the night. Any way to detour them from coming so often. I feel like some how I am triggering them too much. Or maybe the game just progressively gets more difficult in Hard mode, as the Days go forward?

you are on the most diff setting. lol this is why its hard
I chose this setting because it feels much more realistic 'survival wise'.
However... monster-wise; it is very hard.

It is only super challenging because so many monsters come to me, daily and nightly. So much so, that I can barely "do anything" outside of the protection of submerging myself under water, as means to get away from them all. For a short period.

yeah that doesnt sound fun.
There's probably a mod or such that decreases spawn rates, maybe have a look around
Aggression does rise over time so it is intended to get steadily harder. Normally, I live nomadically when playing so I am never in one place often or long and I pop into caves when things get too hairy topside and just go out a different exit farther away.

When actually basing, defenses are the biggest help but they take time to setup, time the cannibals aren't fond of giving. Supposedly making your own effigies should help scare them off, but in practice it's minimally effective at best. Red paint can buy you some minor time when it's a regular patrol (not a mutant wave, mutants don't care) but they usually only pray for a relatively short time if you are moving around and still decide to smack you sometimes.

Until you can get defenses up it might be best to dispatch them quickly whenever possible and work efficiently. Several playstyles can work for that depending on what you tend to favor. I personally favor katana for the long reach, stun lock, and wide swing but it's a high stam low damage weapon with no permanent upgrade options. Modern axe is a player favorite, it can deal a lot of damage to dispatch them quickly but also has a high stam cost and swings slowly so you have to be more careful about your strikes. Bow and arrow headshots are incredibly high damage, usually a one shot for a lot of the cannibals but you do have to practice your aim for that and put yourself at greater risk in close combat if you don't have a melee hotkeyed.

If you haven't gotten it already the flare gun can be a good supporting weapon as well. I wouldn't use it as a main weapon but it does light whatever is in its path on fire (hard to aim), and fire has some uses. My personal favorite is that fire tends to make the pig mutant panic dance instead of charge so he's easier to deal with for a few seconds.
Interesting. Thanks.
