How do you fish. I’ve got a couple with a spear on beach but if go deeper water can’t hold spear. How you meant to do it. Tia

if you "equip" a rabbit trap from the survival book and get it under water, it'll become a fish trap from what I was told

This works a well. But i have never tried it out yet so it might be glitchy (because it might be that rabit traps cant be placed underwater idk)

well a 200 hours guy told me that so idk. But yeah, from what I heard it can be glitchy as well (and 21 sticks) so I'll try your method :D

In shallow water like ponds you can kill fish with most weapons though the spear is one of the better to do with it. With good aim you can also throw the spear to kill fish but the spear is already a bit floppy without ending up underwater and difficult to retrieve (usually it sticks in the ground, sometimes it'll decide to roll away...either way with a fish attached if you managed to hit one).
There's also an achievement for killing a bunch of fish in one go with dynamite but unless you are achievement hunting it can be rather wasteful. Otherwise placing the animal trap is probably your best option but it does like to sit at the water's bottom while fish tend to be a bit closer to the surface so it only works at certain depths in the ocean, though catching a fish that way is also an achievement which is nice.

I guess you could also build a dock to allow you to go a bit further out without unequipping the spear?

I just wait at near the edges of ponds and spear a fish when they get close.
