How to get bones?

I've been watching a Let's Play of this game for the past few days and just started playing myself today. In the LP, the guy got bones for armor by placing dead enemies on a fire. However, when I do the same, when I come back the body is gone, but there are no bones...

Has the way to get them changed (the Let's Play was a year old) or am I not getting them because I walked away and came back? It would be really annoying if I have to stand around waiting for them.

Still works, only for cannibals, you can either throw the bodies on the fire or start a fire under the bodies. Takes about 10 seconds or so for bodies to burn and provide you with 6 bones and 1 skull

I have had the same issue myself. It's like if you move to far from the fire the bones don't spawn in when the body burns up.

I always wait at the fire to prevent this happening.

You can also light them on fire with any weapon that is lit. And yes, you need to stay fairly close while they burn or the bones disappear.

Okay, thanks guys. I had a feeling it was my walking away that was the problem. I just didn't like the idea of standing around idly in a survival game. Oh, well. I'm sure the 10-15 seconds I'm standing there won't mean the difference between starving and not starving.

Bones used to never despawn, they changed this recently, which really sucks in my opinion, now they despawn like the skulls
