Normal Mode: Mutants - way too difficult
I've tried everything......... And keep getting 1-2 Shotted in full Stealth Armor + Rabbit Skin Boots.

Sticky Bombs that don't stick most of the time or sometimes don't land anywhere near to where I throw them, they seem to tickle them on a direct hit, when I actually hit.

The Katana: useless, even with 90+ STR.

Chainsaw: didn't end well for my character.

Head Bomb: has no distance and explodes way after they move away from the blast.

Spear: is impossibe to aim, after several tries on a deer I gave up on it, life is to short for that nonscene.

Bow: is weak-sauce cannot take down a doe with special arrows, and I cant aim it either but not nearly bad as the spears aim.

Molotov, Flare Gun & Dynomite: I haven't tried yet but seem like odd choices & I havent found any other weapons I can think of mentioning.

I can take on the cannibals fairly easy with the Katana, unless its more that 4 of them.

But how do I fight the mutant thingys and not get killed over & over.

I'm at my wits end....... is there a Mini-Nuke or something I'm missing or at least decent Rifle or a semi automatic Hand Gun?
Surely there was an Air Marshal that had one on the flight.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :bandit:

poison arrows slow enemies down, use it it to your advantage. fire arrows are not the most efficient when used on an armsy, but great versus virginia and cowman. use traps and water to kill mutants and try not to get close. both spears, when thrown, do the same damage. you can often go into caves or quickly save and exit to despawn the mutants.

I love contrasting these posts with the posts (usually by you, Dante, Syncourt, or myself) saying how it's not HARD ENOUGH xD

I let my kids have stab at it since they game alot & its not just me, the spear is unuseable at best.

So I went went outside and tried throwing a makeshift spear in real life, I have a good arm but can't quite get the same distance, since the game spear has little or no ark far as I can tell.
But I CAN HIT what I'm actually aiming at in real life & not even close in-game.
This is an issue. Unless barn doors make an appearence in the Mob pool.

The bow is also inaccurate in comparison to my worst bow I own in real life by a long shot & does no damage either, I might as well use the feathers to tickle them instead of crafting arrows.

I know how to strafe and such (been playing 1st person shooters since Doom 1994 up until now and I am quite good at them) & can take on multiple cannibals but the large mutant ones especially in tight spaces seem unkillable.

Bottom line is, I need the weapons to actually work in order kill Mobs that tanky, or give us the trusty Modern age Shot Gun (thats not horribly broken like the spear) every other game has for this type of enemy.

I have no issues in other games like FarCry, Skyrim or even Minecraft for example, using similar to same weaponry.

As far as knowing when to attack, if it engages me I have little choice but to attack it back when cornered in a dark cave, so that statement makes absolutely no scense.

For the large mutants, either try hit and run, or go with the bow. For the pink ones, 8 regular arrows will kill them (with the modern bow). For the grey ones, 5-6 fire arrows will kill them.

there is the modern bow; they nerfed the crafted bow when they added the modern bow to the game, it is much better

Yeah the spear I admit is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, BUT once you DO get used to it, I personally, and most of the people here being a bit aggressive in their defense of the game (I know I do the same), CAN hit what we want, or very close to, almost every time, on the first time, and if you are allowed a second chance (by just going into the inventory then super quickly crafting another spear; or, like I do: having upgraded spear on a hotkey, and throwing a regular spear first, if I miss I can REALLY quickly just whip out the upgraded spear for another throw), it's pretty much assured, since you had that first ranging shot.

I think Uhtan meant the molotov spear, since it kinda explodes into flame

I'd rather have a Harpoon Gun with a teather line to retrive it. Maybe on the Yacht.

Using the blue target with a defensive wall behind it, I finally came close to hitting it, only to have it bounce off up over the wall and land in the ocean somehow, loosing my upgrated spear.

Adding insult to injury :archerrat:

Oooooh..... Molotov Thanks

yeah, people have been asking for a spear gun for quite awhile, mostly to combat sharks, but also they have been branching off into asking for things like arrows with ropes attached to them, almost like Medieval Batman style :P

Ive never had a problem aiming the bows, nearly always get a headshot with them.
Practice with the craft-able target. See where you aim and where it hits and just imagine a cosshair on the bow from then on.

The spear is very annoying to use. The only things i find really hard to hit are lizards and rabbits, anything else is pretty easy to hit. I use the spear exclusively to hunt deer.
Again practice with the craft-able target to learn where to put your make believe crosshair at on screen, also note that crouch mode has completely different aiming i think. Distance makes a huge difference with the spear.

The mutants are not really any trouble, you can block every single attack if you wanted besides the cowman.
The armsy is by far the easiest, dont even really need to block just constant strafe and attack.

The virginias are somewhat tougher, strafing only works if done well, most people just kill them from range usually. I on the other hand normally use skull club, katana, modern axe. Depends if im playing good or not lol, katana for the latter.

For cowman just get in close, bait his foot stomp, rush in for 1-3 hits and back off, foot stomp then repeat.

If 3 mutants attack me at once my priority is always cowman-armsy-virginia. (i only fight melee/close range combat as well)

Since you have +90 strength, try using the machete with 15 glass and 15 teeth upgrades. Its stronger than the katana and just as fast but with shorter range, its my favorite melee weapon now. And try using charge attacks, hold down m1 and you will swing harder but slower. You don't have to charge it all the way, as soon as you see your character starting to wind back for a hard hit, release it.

Its best used after you just sidestepped a mutant attack. Mixing charge attacks and regular hits in combat can drop mutants. Also very effective against cannibals.

Or only use the bow but use poison arrows mixed with bone arrows. Poison arrows do damage over time and make enemies slower and do less damage when attack you. Then pepper them with bone arrows as they are slowed. The modern bow does much more damage and you will drop them in less arrows than the crafted bow.

You could even use the slingshot, about 25 rocks from the slingshot can kill an armsy on normal. Not sure if that will be patched out but I think it should.

I'm doing a blind playthrough on my 1st run, so I have not located any other weapons yet.

Also my charater weighs almost 300lbs now so I'm on a bluberry diet and loosing strength as a result.

However I did manage to kill 1 fat behemoth mutant that gliched out in a cave, so fed I him a head bomb. Although still he was still able to sumo slam me after that, but only took 1 armor off me before I finished him off with a few lucky slashes.

See'ing as my charater weighs almost 300lbs realisticly I should be able to sumo slam him back :facepunch:

I think Timmy is going to die of old age before I get there (Alot like Shaun in Fallout 4)

I'm still in good humor about all this see'ing this is only in pre-alpha, I might have been salty if this was a finished AAA title - but its not.

How did you get to 300 pounds? The way this new calorie system works, you have the whole day to burn off calories from what you eat. And you only get hungry like 2 or 3 times a day. I can see why you would be frustrated, seems like it takes a while to lose weight. My character is at 208 pounds but it's taking a little while just to get back to 205 without messing up my strength gains.

v0.71b hot fix says:
Calories system balance pass, should make weight and strength more manageable
Fixed dried meat eaten from inventory having the calories applied twice

Soooo yea a glitch messed up my weight big time, but was patched :melon:

Ah I see, the dried meat did give like 1200 calories a piece. Now I understand why.

Plus I was eating it for stanima when chopping wood & not hungry, I had no idea about the weight system until it was too late. Whoops :Morry:

You can combine certain plants into mixes that can help you. Theres a crafting section in the survival guide that shows how to make them and some other recipes too.
