harder tougher stronger mod for the survival mode
guys i know that most games on pc can be modded, not sure if this is one of them, but if it is I'd like a mode which enhances the game's difficulty immensely for co-op purposes. my friends think the game is not tough enough to give a challenge so I want to make them ♥♥♥♥ their pants. how can I enhance the game's difficulty?

In game you can choose hard difficlty.

If you want mods then you need to download modapi and find modapi's forum then check if there are mods like the one you want

Better than catering a very small percentage of the gamers.

It should not be too hard and not too easy.

You need the ruleset provided by the developers. They are professionals, probably spent hours over hours on the concept and how the different stats should work together before even writing a single line of code.

I will never understand, but there seem to be people who like to punish themselves. This has nothing to do with interesting gameplay any more.
A mod for cannibals to instant-kill you.
Or a mod that makes you die in 10sec, if you freeze.
Or a mod that makes you starve to death in 1min if you are hungry.

You need to cater for both otherwise you'll just have mostly children playing like minecraft if it is much too easy. Now for a game directed at an adult audience, that would be a very bad move. At least minecraft also has extremely good modability which opens up the game further to reach the other audiences. But the Forest doesn't have that advantage.

You need to cater for both really. You need an easy difficulty for new and casual players and you need a hard mode for those long term players with more experience. Then custom difficulty or modability options for those who want to go beyond that.

The more people talking about the game the better. The more word spreads, the more people purchse the title. The faster people get over a game and are left with nothing interesting to do, the faster they will stop talking about it. Only a small percentage of people seeking a larger challenge remains because the rest have left. But they can be attracted again.

Look at steam database statistics for similar games that have much harder difficulty modes available to them, then take note of the amount of people playing those titles in comparison to The Forest.

No matter how small of a percentage it is, it's still enough people to be of great value.

That exaplains why most of ideas&suggestions are "easier easier easier!" :D
I just love the sandbox they created with the mutants in it.

If you want nearly unkillable NPC, that can be done in 5min. Or you could try to fistfight all mutants as a personal goal.
Finding the right balance to keep players interested and not discourage people who want to play relaxed is the important thing.

Take Peaceful Mode, it has no mutants in it and is therefore absolute boring for me!
Creative Mode, is like cheat to me, I like cutting down trees and look for stuff.
Then Normal Mode is what I usually play and like it.
I did not try Hard mode yet and want to leave it for later, after roughly ~300h played :)

The only thing that makes the game really hard or easy is to enable/disable structure damage and that can be done in all modes.
Playing Hard Mode for tougher enemies, less food/drink/animals but no structural damage is something I would not do. All or nothing.

I dont mean to make the game insta kill you upon one mistake, hard mode pretty much does that already if you screw up fighting a mutant and they do one of their powerful attacks.

More meaningful and strategic fighting/combat, not hp sponges, infinite blocking, power attack exploits etc etc etc
Better interacting AI, the AI is pretty good as is but still needs alot of tuning
Actual survival that requires some sort of thought and not handed to us like children
Enemy sieges, maybe sort of like in a way 7d2d does. Just dont copy it and have it on specific timer. There should be requirements met/days survived before such a thing happens. In a way you basically would bring them on yourself. More days survived, killing, etc would result in deadlier sieges. Sort of like how 7d2d does it with gamestages.
Either make 3 modes - easy, normal, hard, or do like others have suggested and have sliders for diffferent options.
