also did he press continue or new game?
and he could accidently remove his save from your coop :D
we had continued many times before this patch, however for whatever reason since he is unable to rejoin any saved game.
We even started over, got to day 10 or so, and then after saving and looking to continue a few hours after, we hit the same issue, greyed out continue button :(
I am able to continue as the host, however the option is unavailable for him as a client.
Open (you) any folder and paste it into path, you will see folder with you steam id
%appdata%\..\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest\
Inside this folder you will find "SinglePlayer" and "MultiPlayer", go to multi and then go to the save you two use (slot3 for example)
Inside should be "guid" open it with notepad/wordpad/notepad++ (or something similar), you will see strange numbers and letters.
Tell you friend to do the same
%appdata%\..\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest\
But he should go into MultiPlayer and then "cs", inside this folder should be his save, name of this save will be the same as the strange-numbers-and-letters you have seen in guid.
If he doesn't have either "cs" folder or the save with this strange-numbers-and-letters-name then something deleted his save.
I think that multiplayer saves aren't in the steam cloud so if he changed PC then he lost it.
(No idea if there are any other files apart from those in "cs" responsible for multiplayer save, I could miss something)
He could try to verify game files but no idea if it will help with anything.
We have investigated the file locations you mentioned he does indeed have a cs folder in his multiplayer HOWEVER the last file modify date in this location was the 23rd.
It seems that for whatever reason his side hasn't been saving his data in our recent MP games.
we are going to try doing a double save in game to see if that will prompt the game to generate a new file in his folder, as previously I had simply been solo saving as the host and he was able to continue no problems.
I'm sure this isn't the best practice, but it had worked before so we didn't really question it.
going to give it a go, brb :D
I thought that it works ONLY if you both save :D
As far as I've seen both players need to save..
Game working perfectly with him manually saving his own state to ensure his inventory remains intact, while as the host I only save the environment and my own inventory.
Previously however as a host I was actually saving both our inventories without him needing to save each day or whatnot, so it seems they tightened this requirement.
Eitherway game is working so thank you for your suggestions guys :)
It's good advice as "fix" in the current situation.
But I doubt they would punish you for this, many games have similar cloning tenchniques.
It's feature :V
Game has access to save and decides to ignore it
Maybe there is some error while guuid is sent to friend and he sees different one, can try to backup current one and then try to create new one and see if it has the same name or different (aka received different guuid -> then rename old one to new guuid and try to continue using that)
probably in logs wherever the forest keeps them
but unity games usually remove logs after each game restart, and we would want error that occured while saving, aka before trying to continue
