Is Modapi safe?
Please post answers here about if modapi is safe to download or if it conatains a virus. I looked up for answers on reddit but there were only 2 answers about it being safe so i would like to be in the clear if modapi can be installed without getting my computer hacked. Thanks! :steamhappy:

Should be fine but with all things like that there is risk involved

I know what u mean, when i downloaded it, instantly my Anti-virus said it wanted to delete it. It had a trojan. HOWEVER, i think it was a false flag (if u dont know what i mean, basically saying it is a virus when it isnt). I think what it was detecting was that it modifies game files, thinking it "might" change important ones?

Also, ive never actually seen anyone that does use it say they have had issues, other than this false flag i said about. So people saying, "It contains a virus!" when they dont know that for certain and have no proof, just their anti-virus said it. I think its safe... :)

Make sure to get ModAPI from its official places. Also ensure that you don't add mods from foreign places, mods from unknown modders or mods with doubtful tites/descriptions.

If your installed AV reports modapi.exe as a virus or threat consider it a false positive.

I've had it a long time now and no problems other than keeping the mods in check with the updates. You need to adjust some files each time their is an update too, so the Version Number matches the Configuration Key or else the game fails to start. It's best to turn off the automatic update version as it never seems to work properly. Then just do it manually in 2-3 minutes tops. Basically run The Forest after the update, check the log, get the configuration key, get the game number version ie 62a,b,c and put them in the Versions file as detailed in the up to date one below.

This is the current Version Number and Configuration Key to go straight into the versions file, at the bottom. It should be valid for just under 2 weeks unless the update changes before the due date. Next time just copy the one above it, paste it back in and adjust the Version Number then the Configuration Key you get from the Log file.

<version id="0.67">
<checksum>CEFF5EE03E938A02D254E552B81DAD3EA0217D119C9AA0670DA38655B826DBF90F1526CD8CB31F6C83D1DD21ADB799C03DC96C9B0508F866304CA23EBE7C5F93</checksum>
</version>

I keep my ModAPI on the desktop and this is the path to my Versions File;

C:\Users\Steve\Desktop\modapi_20170117\modapi_20160910\configs\games\TheForest

You probably only have one modapi number where I have one inside the other, as above. Notepad++ is a handy program to edit it and it's free off the net;

My Windows Defender does not, if you download it from the official website, you are ok.

On first start modapi will open the game dll and inject a method to implement further code that was original not part of the program. Mods are stored with the modapi program and loaded on game start into the original code.
There is no quality control of the mods, there is no check if they do harm to your save, most mods only work in single player.

To start the game with mods, you need to start modapi first and then launch the game through
modapi.

To unload mods, simply delete the .mod file from the modapi 'mods' folder or just untick them when you start the game through modapi.

You can always start the game normal using the steam client, without mods.

To fully remove modapi, you can check the local files with the steam client and it will remove the changes.

I also got the flag by WD. So I dropped the modapi-2018_05_13_12_22_20.zip from the official ModAPI website into virustotal.com and every single scanner came back clean except 1, an ad-aware scanner called Ikarus, it found "Backdoor.MSIL.Bladabindi". Comparing the information from researching the backdoor with the trojan found by WD, I believe they are one in the same. I have other scanners on my pc monitoring in real time and they never find any malicious activity in the background. I hope it's the nature of ModAPI causing this flag as Jamesfle mentioned. I've been using ModAPI since beta. I need it, I'm building a kingdom in the Forest and there is no way I can do it without haha.

Quoting Microsoft------>
This malware family can steal your sensitive information and send it to a malicious hacker. The family can also download other malware and give backdoor access to your PC.

Variants of the family can spread via infected removable drives, such as USB flash drives. They can also be downloaded by other malware, or spread though malicious links and hacked websites.
--------->

Sounds pretty terrible but, personally, I think it's ok. When I scan something on virustotal.com and it comes back with a multitude of bad results, I know it's bad. But 1 single result from an ad-aware scanner (I've never even heard of...Ikarus) among many other very reputable scanners as in (TrendMicro, Microsoft, McAfee, Malwarebytes, Kaspersky, VIPRE, Emsisoft) all came back clean. 29 out of 30 came back clean. I think we're good to go with ModAPI. Happy Foresting!!!

I am an official member of the support team for ModAPI and a mod dev; I can assure you that ModAPI and official mods hosted on https://modapi.survivetheforest.net have no malicious intent or secret code to steal any of your data. ModAPI and some mods are completely open source projects shared with the community so you can see the code for yourself. Nearly any program that can manipulate files and directories especially injecting methods and functions into base game .dll files will be flag as malicious or a virus. That is due to how viruses can also perform such task; so they are seen as the same type of threats. (False Positives) The official ModAPI and our mods are safe. There are ModAPI clones and some mods not developed or supported by us made by random 3rd parties not found on the ModAPI Hub (be careful) and only use the official ones. I can also tell you that the Discord is far from dead; we are very active there as well. https://discord.gg/VAMuXyd

This thread is from last year bud, and I am 100% sure modAPI is a virus do not download.
SiXxKilLuR 2018 年 8 月 12 日 下午 6:43
You are dead wrong; among other things. As I stated ModAPI is open source.https://github.com/FluffyFishGames/ModAPI Some of you that still think virus need to research false positives and game modifications along with game trainers; be sure to learn how they work and why they may trigger virus protection.
