Water in caves - drink it?
It seems to me that the player cannot interact with the water in the caves. Is this by design or am I doing something wrong? it feels a bit weird to me that there is all this water and sometimes even campfires but I cannot drink or cook the water.

Thanks!

No, for some reason you can't drink or interact with the water in caves.

This really needs to change, its silly that you can't.

This is likely why you can find crates full of soda down there.

Water below ground level would be salt water, so you can't drink from the underground caves for the same reason you can't drink from the ocean. (It's an island) You can drink from the little ponds that catch rain water, just like your turtle shell, but other than that, the water is salty and undrinkable. That's the RP explanation.

The other, more important point is that the gameplay mechanics that the developers programmed into the game with the full knowledge of how it would affect playing the game is the reason you can't drink from underground cave water.

question.... cant you like boil away the sault from the water like in real life? i mean you have duck tape and just about anything youd likely need to do that.... but i guess maybe not? i still think its stupid because some caves are found above the sea level themselves.... but i guess maybe the cave walls are all made of sault lick stone??? which still made little sense to me considering the cave where you get the shovel and wetsuit in is infact river water that you can still drink from outside of the cave which means it cant be sault water now can it???
okay okay i asked google and it seems you cant just boil sault out of water i get that but my point still remains, how can you drink the river water outside but not the same river water flowing into the cavern???

Saltwater you boil to steam, the steam rises then cools to go back to water.

The salt will remain in the pot.

google says your wrong, now im sure there is a way to do it, but thats how you get salt as for getting the water i think boiling it wont help, it would be better to filter it using earth stone and stand, which is easily done by wrapping it into a flexible container like a tarp, then slowly pouring the water into the dirt and soil and sand and rock and collecting what drips as drink able water.... but this is someone i learned to do in survival courses i once took for the area of the world i live in boiling water is a good way for river water or lake water but seawater isnt the same, but who knows maybe im wrong
