Do mods work in Multiplayer?

Hey guys mods downloaded from ModAPI, do they work in multiplayer? Will I get banned if playing with mods? Also do all my friends need to have the mods in the server? Thanks!

Some dedicated servers have a toggle for VAC, it's possible you will get your steam account banned from steamworks multiplayer for using them there, as its a third party mod/script that modifies the game. I think it's LUA based.

But if VAC isn't enabled then no. It shouldn't be possible unless the host bans you from their specific server. As I understand ModAPI is clientside so you should be able to use it without anyone else having it which is a big draw for cheaters and trollers. It is possible that certain features may require you to be host however.

all i know is if you play with a friend in a closed server and you both use modapi then yes it works fine.
