I think it used to be an island... could be that.

No, it was never an island. Where are people getting this notion? Think about it... how would such a geological change be possible without taking hundreds of millions of years? The only other explanation for an island becoming a peninsula is that the sea level lowered and revealed a portion of land beneath. But that doesn't work here, because the part of the peninsula that connects to the mainland is a mountain. This means that had the sea level actually been higher, the mountain would have been the only visible part, not the "island".

^The wiki also refers to the play area as The Peninsula, as do Sahara in one of their slideshows.

Some people are probably thinking "dude who gives a ♥♥♥♥ it's a game, etc" but the for the people interested in the lore and the plot of the game, the geological details may actually be significant, and I think refering to it incorrectly is causing confusion with a lot of people's theories on the game.

Through game design.

The setting is very noticaeble as a peninsula now.

I see what you're saying now. Still, the old map was replaced eons ago. It just irks me when people use the term "island" when I'm browsing this forum, especially in that large theory topic.

I can forgive new players for making that mistake, but I think some of the vets are being negligent in not correcting them :P

Again, I'm making this sound like it's something bigger than it is. It's just something that bothers me about this board lol.

I gotcha ^^

It's interesting. Though, I'm sure there are a number of reasons.

The map is a continent, in the northern hemisphere of the planet !

The devs made the continent very small though .. they knew the gamers would complain they don't have automobiles get around with.

You're saying the peninsula is an entire continent? Dang, my teachers always told me there are only 7 continents! That being said I'm sure the play area is part of the North American continent... don't know how that applies to this topic though.

Ok honestly though .. I was one of those that believed we were stranded on an island.

I'm certain that once we can pass through the mountains in the north, we'll clearly see that it leads to the undiscovered northern beaches near the ocean..

And that is where The Forest expansion pack will be needed to access that game content.

I have a suspision that is where we will find beautiful mermaids and friendlier natives offering us drinks, fine food and hemp cigarettes.

Isn't everything an island thought?

What evidence have you seen that leads you to believe this? Sahara literally calls it a peninsula IN-GAME. It's locked in.

Look at the 3rd bullet point:

Oh .. Ok, I was stretching the truth a bit regarding some of those details.

But it is entirely possible .. My thoughts are that maybe the devs would see my farFetched claims .. and possibly like the idea and implement it.

I was certain when I stated this (look below) .. it would be obvious that I'm stretching the truth.

That's why I only quoted the first half of the quote; the last half is clearly not serious

It's all good .. I'm looking forward to see the game evolve. It seems they made real progress reducing bugs and improving stability in the last few patches. I'll be happy to see the game continue with expansions and DLC if that is possible.

Maybe its a comfort to you to hear that not every player is speaking English fluently and some do only a little bit.

The word peninsula is not very common outside English speaking nations.

I.e. In German the translation would be “halbInsel“, so still an Island.

Don't wonder that people tend to call s piece of land, surrounded by at least 3 sides with the sea, with no visible connection to another landmass is referred to as “Island“
