whats the trick to move with the houseboat?

call me stupid, but i am on the paddle of my houseboat and i can turn left/right but not moving forward backwards with it. and yes its on the water .....
any hints?

If it's the large raft you require 2 ppl to operate it

The houseboat and small raft are quite straight forward to move (with lmb, rmb, A key and D key) but the large raft has two oars and it functions like a real raft.

Yeah, it's not intuitive at all. I thought I had accidentally built my houseboat too close to a dock, haha.
