Can Cannibals Swim?
I've just got this game, spent a few hours building a little dock and a raft, and have taken a small island off the shore where I've now got a fire pit, lots of rain collectors, a log cabin and a large raft parked. It's full of turtles so I can basically live there now.

Whenever I'm lumberjacking and the cannibals find me I chase them and chop them up, and then dump on bodies off the cliff into the sea, and I make sure I'm always back on my Island by night.

Is there a chance they'll spawn near me? My dock now just has chopped down stumps for miles, but I only have the axe from the plane and although it's good for bashing one of two I don't want a pack arriving on my island. Just considering if I should start wood spiking the shore and building walls on my island or if I can leave it nice and clear?

Thanks :)

Ive never seen them swim, no. Ive seen them walk across the bottom of small ponds, but they seem to stop at the waters edge for oceans.

They normally only go about waist deep in water, they used to drown immediately after going into water chest high, dont know if they still do. They will never go into the ocean to reach an island unless you were to build a bridge im assuming. They use player bridges to cross the river.
They are unable to swim because they are scared of the water. I might be wrong but correct me, if suddenly the rain comes, mutants/cannibals tend to leave from patrols and go back to their bases until the rain leaves because they are afraid of the water.

You are completely safe if you swim, be careful of sharks. If a mutant/cannibal chases you and accidentally falls into the beach (Can happen sometimes but this is bug obviously) they will immediately die in matter of seconds. Be careful of mutants who can throw objects at you though.

Mutants can however utilise bridges the same way you do, so if you built a bridge leading to your island or even your yacht, you will be attacked.

Gotta be the least work intensive safe base to build. Just a small raft and the yacht. It's actually not a bad location either, you can fortify the beach fairly easily with stone and you're closer than a far off island and have better access to resources. The only real problem is building all those storage objects, you have to move logs on the raft which is even more painful than using a log sled.

Sea bases always have this downside. Either you build a bridge for better access or you can't have logs easily. So you pay a price for the ultimate safety.

You can also build a small base in caves but again you lose access to logs.

Build a houseboat and place logholders all over it. If you build a water collector next to the door you can access the roof and build 10+ log holders on one houseboat.

This. So easy to get logs across the water. Much easier than building a bridge and doesn't make the whole reason you built out there in the first place completely null. Just place all of the log holder blueprints overlapping each other first, then build them.

I just make a platform to farm, collect water, and dry meat on, stilted hut, and raft over at goose lake, free fish and geese with another small pond nearby for more fish, rabbits, lizards and deer all spawn on the shore, trees and berries all around, rope respawns in the ruined rowboat, cannibals mostly just gather on shore and shout at you.
