SPOILERS - DONT READ IF HAVENT PLAYED THE ENDING ENGAME-ELABORATION

Alright so I may be in the minority in this one, maybe not, the ending was absolutely awesome for me. But can some of you who have finished the game please elaborate on what happened. Perhaps maybe fill the gaps in the endgame. My explanation goes as such:

In the end the small girl you found who turned out to be a super/spider mutant, whatever. Was the girl whos drawings you found all over throughout the labs. Once you killed her you went back to place her in the artifact and it said you needed a live sample. So you go on to the "second artifact" which turns out to be the device that shoots down planes traveling across.

My take is this, the irony is is that the red man from the begginning when you get off the plane was simply someone else who was trying to take timmy and bring him in for the artifact because HE HIMSELF needed a live sample too. You are just simply falling into the same exact role as you play throughout the game and progress through the storyline.

Have the developers released any info on perhaps,

A. Why is the place here? I know its maybe a broad topic, but why is this place here.
B. Where was the artifact, just dug up somewhere?
C. What exactly are the mutants, just failed experiments let loose onto the island to roam on, and if so where and howd they learn the basics of civilization? I.E. the villages you find and what not. Or perhaps were they already there? And why dont the "special mutants" (virginia's etc.) attack the basic ones.
D. How were they saved?
E. Did you (playable character) know what was going on with timmy at the end? Because I dont know about you guys, but TImmy had a wierd twitch going on before I went and talked to the talk show host.

Dude, I am asking the same questions you are asking! My friend and I just beat the game. Sure, there are a lot of bugs that needs to be worked out, such as after you enter certain caves past the first black door, that's where a lot of bugs are. But that's to be expected considering it is still in alpha stage. I will give you my thoughts on your questions.

A and B - I am assuming that it was buried there on the island by alien civilzations that landed on earth a long time ago and the company Sahara discovered it by mining the island and built the building which I am assuming has some kind of invisibility because I did not see that building at all.
C - I think that the failed experiments either just let loose or escaped from the lab. The natives who lived on the island were either used as experiments or got killed off by experiments....
D - I am thinking that the plane you saw crashed when we activated the EMP and ended up in a better position than we were... e.g., black box was saved, radio was still in working condition, etc... just my thoughts... It is defintely a great question!!!
E - I definitely knew something was up with Timmy with all the twitching going on because he was inside the artifact.

But D*MN!!!! That was a GREAT game!!! I am very pleased with how developers created this game and it is only in alpha stage. I can't wait to see how much further they will continue to develop the game. I am HOPING there will be a sequel coming out!

All went to hell as you see most of the observation rooms were broken open and blood is everywhere (probably the original scientits) And the Mutated kids were roaming free on this island and very angry ( you kill armsy a 6 year old mutated kid ).

So I think that mathew cross (megans father) is a scientist for sahara theropeutics and he worked with the resurection artifact that they had found in the cave and they had built a lab around the artifact to make money off of bringing peoples children back to life.

Somehow Megan cross was dead and mathew cross's main research on the resurection artifact was to bring his daughter back from the dead and he also had her body. Obviously he could not do this alone and had to have a team/company to help him build the lab and work on the children. I think they made money from all of the survivors from your plane crash ( the first crash ) by using them to bring back the children and also to bring back the head scientists daughter Megan. So mathew had crashed your plane and took timmy while wearing blood on his body so he could use timmy to bring back megan from the dead.

shortly after megan was brought back to life all of the other resurected children started mutating. I think it took longer for others to mutate ( megan, timmy ) because they were given a lower "dose" as you can read on a post note that they are given a certain dose of something to bring them to life. So megan was alive and well while all of the others were mutating. I think the first stage of the mutation is just a normal slimey mutant as you fight them through out the game ( they will later turn into monster freaks ) because when you first find megan she is covered in slime like the mutants but she has not turned into a big monster yet. so the other kids were in the observation rooms and they were mutants but not monsters and the scientists knew something was wrong. The kids that were given a higher dose were the ones that turned into the monsters first and broke out of their rooms only to kill most of the scientists, somehow mathew and megan survived this.

shortly after that, megan had killed her father with pencils ( as you see in the lab ) and she was about to turn into monster like the rest. So she walked to a big room with her fathers blood on her feet and sat on the floor, colored, and played with a toy plane. this is when you come around to try and find a sacrifice for your child.

Megan drops a keycard ( probably got it from her dad the scientist ) and you go onto the next room to find the second artifact. You see the radar and press the activate button and see a yellow colored plane crash into the forest ( our plane was blue that is how i know you do not see your own plane crash de-bunking the theory that you are the red guy that picked up timmy in the beggining ). The cutscene starts with " 1 year later".

Now when the plane crashed my theory is that you went down to the yellow plane and found a live sacrifice ( someones son/daughter) to bring timmy back to life, brought the child back to the artifact and brought timmy back to life ( not knowing timmy would ever turn ). Now back to the cutscene, Your book is called "rescued" which means you were rescued from the island either by a searchteam or a passing boat less than a year later with your son timmy. I know you got off the island less than a year after timmys resurection because he had to have time to write a book.

So timmy is twitching out and acting weird but you proceed and talk to the man hosting the show. After about 20 seconds it goes scilent and the curtans open in the back to show two standing trees, The host probably wants to chop wood with you like you did in your survival. You are thinking " well sh*t i do not want to do this ever again that was the worst thing of my life ". You look at the crowd, and look back at the host and nodd your head yes. You proceed to chop the invincible wood with the host and hear the worst noise of your life. The host drops his axe in fear while you stare at your own only to think you will have to kill your own son because he is about to turn into a crazy mutant just like you saw megan. And that is when the cutscene ends.

Now all of the children that were resurected turned into different monster/mutants. There was virginia who turned into a 6 legged creature with multiple sex orgins as seen on the projector and found dead in the lab. There was a 6 year old kid who turned into armsy who you killed not to far past the dead virginia mutation body. There was a really really REALLY big mutated kid found in observation room H right after you kill armsy who inflated to the entire room. And then there was megan who turned into that tree monter thing which we saw go down. There is no telling what timmy turned into as we did not see but it couldnt have been anything like the others because they were all so different there is no way to tell but whatever he turned into, it went down on live TV and either you killed you mutated son or it killed you and everyone in there.

This has been one of the most plot twisting and most crazy storys/endings in a video game that i have ever seen and this game diserves IGN 10/10 lmao, seriously these devs are so crazy for this i do not know how they came up with any of this stuff and peiced it together so well but we as a community need to figure out what the hell went down on this mysterious island.

sometime within the year of timmys resurected life i think there was a father/mother that survived the yellow plane that you took down and he probably already found his kid in the artifact where you left him dead to bring back your son, so he is going to bring down another plane and get a child from the crash and take that kid back to the artifact and resurect his child that you killed for your own. All while your resurected kid is turning into a mutant from the resurection on LIVE TV!

Yo seriously thank you guys for this. I was honestly tossing and turning last night tryna piece it together, and when a GAME gets you to do that. That's impressive.
The Forest to me is a wonderful hybrid that turned a survival horror game into a story. But if was up to you, how fast you wanted to progress through it. Hell you could completely avoid the storyline if you wanted too, but the endgame definately made it all worth it. Those countless hours of early gameplay were not in vain.

Dude right?! And as far as a sequel, how sick would it be if for whatever reason you had to go back? Maybe that's cliche who knows. But you have to go back because you missed something last time, or perhaps mutants start showing up on the mainland, and you have to go back to figure out why that's happening.

The best part of the story for me was how you had to personally piece it all together. I played through the story with two other friends, and all those moments of "oh my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ god dude" as you piece 2+2 together, moments where the game actually disturbs you or you figure something out that's so twisted your heart drops.

The worst moment for me was shortly after entering the lab, when you find out all the mutant hybrids are actually mutated children. That ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me

Only discrepancies I have with that explanation is Matthew Cross in the first half. He's not covered in blood, it's red paint and done purposely by Cross to instill fear in him. He can "bring people" back from the dead, and the tribals associate him+red paint with Cross being a god/deity of sorts. Hence why the tribals act scared of you when painted, they think you're him/with him.

Cross was the head scientist, who, I assume, lost his daughter and was driven to madness because of it. He started diving into the more "obscure" part of scientific and medical lines in his grief. The other children were all 'failed' experiments it would seem, and Megan was the most 'stable' of the tests, having survived for an undetermined amount of time. Cross was fired for starting to use the artifact to take down planes to feed the experiments, there's a letter about him being fired for unethical conduct in the lab. Cross went overboard, lost his mind saving his daughter, and finally succeeded using Timmy as a live sample to bring Megan back. Obviously blurring the lines between life and death has consequences, as shown by Megan not really being all there, and murdering her own father shortly after she was revived. His success lead to his own downfall.

Now like people have explained, the main character is assumed to have taken down another plane, found a survivor, used him to bring Timmy back, and fast forward a year later, Timmy is facing the same exact thing Megan went through. There's a lot to the story, it's super in depth for a game that's not even complete, but Matthew Cross also alludes to religion, i forget the whole bit but you see caves with crosses nailed onto walls, and there's a few crucified bodies around the island.

The only difficulty level I've played on was the hardest they have. Didn't stop the story from being amazing, there's a lot to do in game

I just cannot imagine they are natives, because they seem to have nothing against the mutants.

Or perhaps the canibals are the workers of the corporation turned insane by the artifact somehow? And they don't attack the mutants because they still see them as the children the experimented on somehow? That'd be a trip. The laboratory looked fairly modern. It's hard to say how long it's been there. Ugh this storyline is so tight.
