Early game - is the spear or the axe more effective killing the cannibals?

I would say the axe but i don't have too much experience in the game. The stone axe is really strong but pretty slow.

All weapons have their own pros and cons. Hover over them and you see sliders with speed, damage and block.
For example, ,most (including me) favour the katana because of its speed, but it's really lacking in damage and I can definately see someone using a club instead because of that. It's up to your own preference, really.
I know I didn't adress the axe or the spear, because I honestly don't know :) the point is look at the different values and decide how you enjoy killing the cannibals.

well early on i would preffer the upgraded spear over the plane axe. Simply becuase of the distance you can keep to the cannibals and also the speed. :)

The main difference between the axe, any axe, and spear is that spear while being the fastest striking weapon cannot block.

i typically use spears for killing birds or fish, early game ill throw em at deer for waterskin.

People use Katana for its speed and it can block, it also does have high damage. pretty much if you know where it is you go for it fast as you can get it without fighting any cannis. There is some in the cave but they can be avoided.

The only time I would use an axe over katana is if I had stupid high strength.

Sry got off topic on my own post and didnt clarify.

Between plane axe and spear i view it as a toss up. While spear can keep them at bay if you are fighting more than one or two I'd use axe for blocking as they will attempt flanks

Modern axe does knock downs like crazy. Only weapon I feel comfortable with while fighting 5 or more cannibals, block is great too

Tree sap + feathers + modern axe, only one or one and half bars slower then katana. I think you can put 20 feathers on it not sure.

Im pretty sure upgrade limit is 30, but I remember something about each upgrade adds less than the last one (second feather adds less than the first, third less than second, so on), so it might reach a basically 0 increase point around 20 feathers in.

I'm not sure I just hold right click on both sap and feathers and max out the speed boost. I only use the katana when I am swarmed by 10+.
You can also use sap + booze + modern axe for maximum damage. Think it does more then the club the cannibals drop.

I prefer the upgraded spear, lightning fast, and keeps them at a good poking distance (can also hit down from a walkway ontop of defensive walls if you aim right, plus the ability to in a panic throw it for massive (and I mean massive) dmg is quite nice.

The Katana is only good on games that are normal or below normal difficulty, otherwise the stamina usage just kills you, use the modern axe and max it out with glass and feathers, Rip & Tear. (Sorry for extremely late response)

Lol. Also the answer is to level up your agility by holding your breath underwater until you can effectively dodge, and then use the spear every time.
