4 player Coop possible ? Spawning together ?
Hi !

Is 4 player Coop possible ?

Do the human players spawn together or do you have to search for each other first ?

You can be 8 players on the same server, and you all spawn at the same place. If someone logs in later, they will still spawn at the same place everyone else did. By then you might have to find eachother depending on how far from the crashsite you ventured.

Thanks !

Can you host a server locally (on your pc) for your friends or do you have to join public servers ?

You can host yourself, you also have the option to mark it as "private" so only you and your friends can play there, preventing other random people from joining.
There's no dedicated servers yet so the host have to be in game at all times. If the host leaves then all players are kicked immediately.
When the host saves in the game, it saves the progress of the world and the hosts playerdata, other players have to save for themselves in order to keep their progress since this is not saved on the server.

Is this working or are there often synchronization issues ?

Thanks for your help !

I've never experienced any synchronization issues, but I'm only playing with 1 or 2 friends so there might be problems with more people but not that I heard of.

I've had only one bug where I joined my friends game the next day and every item I had was gone when I logged back in. You're able to duplicate anything on a few pressure plates for some massive doors so that's how I got it all back

Are you sure that YOU as the joining player saved your own game (using a shelter, bed etc) and not only let the host save? As I said earlier in this post, all players are responsible for saving their own progress.

Yes, I'm sure I had saved my own character MULTIPLE times as this was a 9 hour play session. I save probably 5 times during the day every day on average. I'm aware of how saving works. The saving system isn't perfect, and I've had friends experience the same thing.

Do you think I would get every possible item in the game except the Katana and not save once?

If the Host goes to their save file location (appdata/locallow/sks/theforest/7563.../Multiplayer), selects the save slot in question, and opens the file called GUID and copy pastes the code within to you: Can you then follow the same directory but instead of selecting a slot go to CS or client saves and look for the file with the same name the Host found in the GUID file?

This confirms that your save is actually still there, let us know if it is or isn't

Also does this happen every time or only just the once?

This happened like a month ago, so I'll ask the host to find that for me when I get home if that'll help you try and pinpoint a bug.

It only happened to me once, and it was about a 7 hour play session when we stopped. Got on the next day and my inventory was reset to spawn stuff, except I was in the exact same position I was when logged back in. It happened to one of our other friends on the server as well, but it was only a one time issue that we were able to remedy fairly easily by trading stuff to each other, having me save my progress, and then the host quit to keep his inventory while mine was able to keep all the stuff he gave to me. That's an exploit I used to fix the problem, also probably a decent idea to let you know about that in case that's a bug you'd like to squelch as well.

Oh, We were worried something came up with the update.Thank you for specifying that it had actually happened quite some time ago. (If you do see it again, etc let us know here though as it sounds like a rather annoying bug)

You do realize I wasn't in that particular play-session, right? There's no way I could know for how long you played or what items you gathered. Even if I did, just putting in hours and doing stuff in-game is no guarantee you have extensive knowledge of the system.
It's not exactly clear that each player have to save their own progress, I was just trying to help.

I understand that, but coming off as superior and condescending while offering help tends to piss people off. You offered the most mundane suggestion in a way where it seemed like you were under the impression I'm a complete idiot and wouldn't have the common sense to know how save files work? Offering "help" while coming off as a condescending dickshit comes off as you just, you know, being a dickshit
