Ocean fishing
I looked around for info on this but couldn't find any.

How do you harvest fish from the ocean? I have no trouble spearing fish in a pond, but I can not get fish from the nodes in the ocean. I have tried spearing ones that are close to shore but none of them are close enough. As soon as my feet leave the ground and I start swimming, I cannot use the spear. I tried spearing them from my boat, but the spear does not reach into the water, even when crouching. Same goes for a dock/platform.

Am I missing something or are those nodes waiting for a fishing pole to be added?

Try a fish trap, same as a rabbit trap but requires rope. You build a rabbit trap, but before placing down the hologram/outline, move it over water, and it shows the alternate design.

you can shoot them with arrows, swim to them and pick up them
