Create a shortcut from the dedicated server .exe file. Then run it from there. That fixed the issue of version mismatch for me. However, I still have the problem of it being stuck in LAN, I cannot find that answer anywhere.

Im running it from the shortcut buts its still a version mismatch

Did you create the shortcut from steam itself or from the .exe file? Steam shortcut is has a path similar to this: steam://rungameid/556450
From the .exe it will look like this: "D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\TheForestDedicatedServer\TheForestDedicatedServer.exe"

Yes I created it from the exe

Any update on the issue? I'm having the same issue. I tried a 'listen' server first, where my friend would join me while i play, but we were having connection issues. So I thought I'd try a dedicated server, but even though i just redownloaded both the server and the game, it still says server version mismatch.

same issue

Yeah, I'm getting the same issue. I know the ports for mine are forwarded and the .cfg file is set correctly.

I already uninstalled and reinstalled both the Game and DS Tool, but no cigar.

Hopefully someone figures this out :/

Okay, I fixed my issue, don't know if this will help anybody else, but I'll list what I did:

  • First I made sure that the Dedicated Server .exe had it's own shortcut
  • Then in the properties of the shortcut I put on my desktop, in the target field, i added:
"-dedicated" so it looks now like:
    "C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\TheForestDedicatedServer
    \TheForestDedicatedServer.exe" -dedicated
  • Then I ran The Forest Dedicated Server shortcut "as administrator"

with that, essentially it fixed my unjoinable server, in the LAN tab for joining games, that originally had the error message saying it was unjoinable due to Server Version Mismatch with current patch of the game.

Now it is in the online tab and works perfectly.

Don't know if that helps, but that was what got me through it.

I made a shortcut on the desktop ending the target path and -dedicated at the end and running it as administrator but it still says version mismatch. The ip i set in the txt document is the IPv4 right? 192.168.0.10:27015? That correct?

I still cannot get it to the right version.
Nicolash Jun 6, 2017 @ 12:47pm
yeah, thats the right ip alright, should be your own pc's ip
if you wanna double check open command prompt (windows key + r) and type cmd, then type "ipconfig" and enter, IPv4 should be your correct IP and then just add ":27015" afterwards.

Pretty sure @Police Man you got that all down.

Make sure the shortcut you got was from the original .exe file in your C drive, not from steam.

I also linked my steam server account, don't know if that helped but I did it anyways.
The info can be found here: https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers

You just paste your Steam Server ID into the field in the .cfg file

Hmmmm, trying to think of anything else.

I did have a lot of trouble with the port forwarding, had to eventually reset my router back to default but finally got it working.

Final step I did was uninstall and reinstall both the Forest and Dedicated Server tool, then restart computer and router.

It seems like this issue has a lot to do with steam just not updating the Tool to the necessary patch, so getting past that requires going around steam from the looks of it.

Good luck

Got it working after messing around thanks. I did the -dedicated after the target on the shortcut, while running in admin mode, and the thing that fixed it was making the steam profile line blank in the server config.txt, which made it connect to steam anonymously :) My friends and I are all able to get on it now
