Tips on fighting mutants in caves?
Does anybody have any tips on fighting the mutants in those dark ass caves? I can handle the tribals just fine in the dark but the mutants just wreck me. Im doing all this solo so im the light source and the attacker which doesn't help.

You could always wrap cloth around your weapon and light it on fire. Provides a lot more light and helps to kill the mutants.

It was the virginia in cave 2 that killed me. The torch goes out after like 3 swings, so that isn't very helpful. I shot the thing with 3 flares and still kept coming. Did they beef up the mutants more or something?

I go in slow, and look for a high place to shoot fire arrows and throw molotovs and bombs. Know where the exit tunnel is located. Sometimes I try to kill at least one and then go back out for more ammo.... Post skull lamps as I go so I have some light. I use M121 in caves and at night.

Always try to get the height advantage. Always, if you hear any noise indicating one or more monster types are there, back away, throw a flare to spot them. Once you find a safe spot you can easily take them out with molotovs or fire arrows.

Never use torches to attack, only as a lightsource.

The flare gun, like any fire based weapon are at their most affective when they can do a full burn cycle on an enemy. Constantly spamming flares into any monster type wihout a full burn cycle will only get you killed.

Under Color Grading (last in the option menu) put "BlockBuster" not BlockBusterWarm and you solve the problem for the dark caves. They are definetely enlightened. Try it out.

Aka nub mode.

It's not necessary at all if you come prepared , it destroys the immersion and suspense when exploring caves

Blockbuster is viable setting while keeping most immersion. On land its makes night time feel like its a full moon.

Super color grading is extremely bright with just the lighter.

I know they seriously need to frag the babies. They were the ones that took out my armor completely. I mean really? The freaking babies have the attack strength of an abrams.

Throw some molotovs and cook them. No point in melee combat when there's a giant monster type coming to destroy you.

Thats what i tried with the dynamite....I can't see where they so im throwing blind. And what's considered a safe place? I know somewhere elevated but can't the virginias perform a mega ninja insta-kill super jump?

Either the highest possible vantage point in that area of the cave, or run back to the first rope again from wich you descended. Hopefully they will follow you, making it possible to lob nades at them.

It depends really. Once i thought i was high enough and i got *ALMOST rekt by 2 charging cowmen. I still don't know how i made it out of that alive. And note this was playing with a controller, not high accuracy mouse.

And yes the Virginia's can jump attack you, but i have never seen one that could jump that high.

You can def solo the game, all it takes is some preparation when you go cave exploring. And a bit of luck sometimes.
