How to find caves?

Any easy way to find caves? The interactive map hasn't been much useful to me, and I forgot to get the map and compass. Also, the only cave I've ever found needs climbing axe. It's been day 22, and I'm frustrated.

You want the map and compass first. Easiest way to get those is just let yourself get "killed" (assuming it's a Single Player game). You will then be dragged off to a cave in teh SE corner of the island and the map and compass are located right where you respawn.

Once you got those finding stuff is a lot easier. For one thing if you get near to a cave, you will hear the "scribble" sound as the map updates itself.

Generally the entrances are in or near villages, tent sites, or cliffs and rock formations... Just Search these when you come across them, not hard to spot once you know what to look for

Yeah, I didn't read guides from the first time I played the game, specifically because I want to try without guides or guiding hands, first. To see how long I can survive.
