Catch a Live Rabbit
How do you catch the live rabbit? So far I haven't got a clue. I'm currently in a middle of building a base, and rabbits as food source sounds very good.

Build an animal trap in an area u see lots of them... Preferably by your base, and check it regularly.
Catch couple live ones and throw them in a cage. Breeding now works.
You can also get lizards and squirrels using a trap

Breeding will take place when you sleep. 10% chance of a new rabbit in the rabbit cage. It is working.

I have 4 in a cage and have had them for many days....not a peep. btw when you want to "use" one, do you just kill it in its cage in front of the others?? That's hideous if so.

I'd prefer there was a way that I could take it away somewhere private to kill it.

With a hammer.

They do breed, probably takes a week? If you have 4 build another cage and put 2 in each
U pick one up same as when removing from trap....U can take it where u like
You can honestly catch more rabbits than you can breed if you put your traps in different areas where you've seen rabbits around. If you've built your base near the forest (and hopefully you have, mountain bases are for cowards), spend a day or two sneaking around looking for areas with rabbits that are close, but far enough apart to have different respawn pools.

Then, move from trap to base to trap capturing rabbits. Every run between traps should net you at least 1 rabbit, but more than likely you'll get more. Set up 10 pens and aim to put two rabbits in each, and that way each night you'll probably see at least one new rabbit every morning. Eat the third rabbit, and any extra thirds will become dried meat.

Once you're set up you'll be entirely self-sufficient on rabbits alone, and when you include all the lizards and deer you'll be killing on your rabbit trap runs you should have 3-4 drying racks filled with meat. Throw in 4 or 5 turtles and you could spend months without ever leaving your base.
