"Sanity" Effects
On the wiki, it says having a low enough sanity rating can cause the game to trigger auditory "hallucinations."

Does anyone know if it's accurate, or what the "hallucinations" are?

Haven't encountered anything yet and my sanity has been below 20% for the last 30 days.

Mostly 0 or 10%. Probably because i eat so many cannibals and still haven't healed that infection.

I can confirm It's true but I only play hardmode tryed with 0 sainty will really only cause auditory hallucinations but I use immersion sound. On solo so I hear things like screams, barks but nothing around also think I hear deer mateing calls but Im not expert on deers. It Can kinda mess with stamina cuz you allways get infected if you eat human but aloe so its easy to deal with it.

I think the wiki is wrong again here. After all the information there can be written by anybody without any evidence. The person who wrote it could have just a few hours and thought "oh hey! I haven't heard that sound before, must be my sanity". Just look at the strength page saying that it allows you to carry up to 4 logs. Where on earth does that information come from?

I've heard every sound but 1 with high sanity levels. Sometimes I hear sounds and cannot see anybody nearby who done them, even with high sanity.

This one sound is a very long and chilling female scream, as if somebody falling off a cliff or just had an arm ripped off. It's like a 'I'm going to die' kind of blood curdling scream. Not to say it doesn't happen with high sanity though as I never actually checked when I heard it, I've only heard that specific scream about 3 times in total across the 321 hrs of gameplay I have.

Whatever it is, It is by far the best and most terrifying sound in the game. There should be more sounds like this that are extremely rare.

Yea that why I you cant trust the wiki 100% for alot of things like 4 logs at max strength I'm sure It's bull but they just need to update the wiki. +1 on more freaky nosies also would like more negative effects. When fighting and choping and burning bodys up. I dont know about you but that would make me a tad crazy. Would be funny if they add something like kuru if you eat to much human meat then your gonna suffer.

Maybe a later update? I never heard anything out of the ordinary as well. But then again, if you are wearing headphones, that may be it too. I don't use headphones.

Headphones: yes use headphones. Good headphones. You can literally tell the direction a sound has come from if your headphones do that. Not earbuds or walkman style. I run an expensive sound blaster X-FI that supports 'surround sound'. If you have something similiar - use headphones.. It's helps with the immersion greatly! The Forest supports it and certainly helps to determine what direction you hear things.

100% can confirm. Auditory hallucinations are things that you hear not see. When in the caves for a long time, I've started to hear things in empty rooms - loud noises, sounds that indicate a monster that isn't there or a cave-in that isn't happening. It's a matter of subtle ambience - and I feel like it adds significantly to the suspense of exploring a cave.

Sanity has no effects yet. Those sounds you hear in caves are just the ambient noise.

Dude, I swear on my life there's normal ambient noise and then there's ambient noise I get specifically when low on sanity.

Are you talking about the sounds like a cowman walking around and stones falling? I've heard those with high sanity in certain caves. It always spun me out too but wasn't related to sanity.

Quite possible. Honestly, both accounts responding to this have hundreds of hours logged in the game - so perhaps the only effect is the user thinking they're hearing auditory hallucinations when they're actually not. :)
