Does anyone know off-hand if the Houseboat is functional yet?
I'm playing a single player run and I wouldn't mind bringing my house with me, but obviously with the large raft I would just spin in circles. I know previously it just kind of floated poorly, but it's been a few years since I tried it.

You can't control the house boat yet, but you can of course maneuver it by running up against the wall and "pushing" it along from the inside.

You can also build inside the houseboat now, including a fire for warmth and a bed for saving/sleeping. With that in mind the houseboat works well as a mobile off-shore base that will keep you safe from mutants and cannibals.

I like to build a really secure base with layered traps and multiple redundancies and harass the cannibals until I'm getting at least 2 armsies a night, and if they manage to destroy everything I'll have a raft waiting on the coat with a houseboat off-shore for a speedy getaway so I can start it all again.

That's a bummer you still can't pilot it properly, I just wish there was a one person option for powering the big raft since it seems better in seemingly every way.
I hadn't thought about building a dock with an escape raft in case of cannibal overrun, that's a really cool idea that I'm totally using!

Last I used the houseboat it was fully maneuverable. The paddle is on the right hand side, next to the entrance.

I use the Houseboat all the time. I have 3 fully functional; 2 along the West Coast and one in the lagoon East of the Cockpit. I have a bed, fire, water collector, food drying rack and stick storage box inside, and 6 large log holders on top. It handles very well with a full load and has never turned over like the raft does all the time. The only meaningfull attack occurs when the FireBall Cannibal throws fire at me. So I just move a little further from the shore...

Houseboats definitely work, as indicated in the 2 replies above. My houseboat loadout for my current playthrough:

FLOOR PLANS:

Stick boxes and log holders can be covered in deer skin. The weapon holder sits nicely at just about the top of the half shelf. The fire pit should be tucked into the corner as tightly as possible to leave room for the rainwater catch. Planters are on the floor at the base of each shelf; place as low into the floor as possible to prevent covering the [majority of the] bottom shelves. Floor stick boxes can be placed side-by-side, meeting at the center of the large window; you'll have to place them slightly into that wall, to leave enough walking room to get to the bed/drying rack/explosives.

Hope this helps :)

Well there you go.
Shows me for replying when I haven't played the game in a few months.

Wow! Great design! I'll copy some of it, for sure. I can live on mine too, but not as well as you on yours.

Of course you can maneuver the house boat.
Probably you just didn't understand how.

Its working sidewards. The house ro the left of you and then left mouse forward, right backward, left n right key to steer.

Its not easy i admit and could be more comfortable. But it's definitely working.
I did cruises all around the coast lines already
