Nuclear Throne

Nuclear Throne

tips and tricks
so ive been playing this game for a total of 6 hours, and i am in love with it.
but there is somethings that always get me like the rats on the sewer stage and stuff like that.
so if any one has any tips for playing as a certain person, tips for some of the stages, or just what each person ability does once upgraded. feel free to say!
    controls
movement W or UP A S D RIGHT DOWN LEFT
  • P to pause
  • Q, E, or SPACE to change weapon

  • fish- Throne Butt upgrade makes him invincible for the duration of his roll. This includes both enemy projectiles AND enemies that would normally damage him on contact. Very effective when combined with Gamma Guts (enemies touching you take damage).

  • crystal - when special is upgraded he can teleport to where the mouse pointer is at. (as long as its not a wall)

  • plant - when special is upgraded the vines will do damage to foes. i also use his special to stop the rats when they are rushing at me or to hold the boss in one place. vines will make light in the dark levels.

  • steroids - alternate skin i think is wearinga white shirt with blue dots if i remember right. Throne Butt upgrade removes his accuracy penalty

  • melting - (took me a while to learn how to use lol) special will explode dead bodys and destroyed plants. only the touch of worms does not instakill you (not sure about the spawning rats though). Do not shoot the worms-spawning carcasses: stand near them until they explode, and trigger the explosion on the remaining of the carcasses, anihilating the worms.More generally, no need to shoot the carcasses unless you're under pressure, need to clear the way fast, and have something like the machine gun to kill the worms.

  • Robot's - Robot's special ability does NOT require Throne Butt to recover health. Whenever Robot is at less than maximum, there's a 50/50 chance his ability will recover health instead of granting ammo for your second gun
Throne Butt upgrade causes the ability to proc twice instead of once. So either double the ammo, or some ammo and some health, or double health.
Robot's alt-skin he's blue with little fins like cat ears :3.

  • eyes - special ability enemies will slowly come to you, telekinesis can also slightly alter the path of bullets away from you, Only slightly though. lure enemies to a corner or wall with mind control, and hit them with your melee weapon. (Works best for sledge hammer and shovel.) Eye's Throne-Butt upgrade only increases the pull and effective range .

  • Y.V. - Pop Pop is activated by right click, and fires double the ammo all at once, with double the reload time. With throne butt, it is quadruple the ammo fired at one time, with 4x longer reload time. His passive is faster reloading on regular shots, which basically means his rate of fire has increased. Even with non-automatic weapons . Pop Pop does NOT work with melee weapons, but passive will work for melee weapons.

    levels
  • sewer - good to have shotgun to stop rushing rats

    Tips
  • Yung Venuz's Pop Pop skill can work as a shotgun alt-fire of sorts when used with a machinegun or other rapid-fire bullet weapon. Good for dealing damage while conserving ammo! Never hesitate to take Scary Face, the rats will become one-shots with the gun and pop-pop.

  • When using steroids have a crossbow as one of the weapons. You will have a permanent laser guide for you other weapon too

  • Hitting and killing an enemy with a melee weapon can hurt others if the body hits them

  • bullets it takes to kill, bandits 2, scorpions 6(?), big maggots 8, rats 3 (more to come)

  • You can get out of a warp portal if you use Fish's roll

  • Assassins can play dead so if you are using melting be sure to use your special ability. If the body doesn't blow up then the assassin is still alive so be careful.

  • If you have the grenade launcher, bouncing grenades off the walls can be a good way to deal with enemies around corners. (Presumably you can do the same thing with the disc gun, I never use it though so I wouldn't really know. Plus the grenades explode, so you don't need to be as accurate)

  • Those little bone things filled with maggots leave behind corpses for melting to explode. If you stand near one until it triggers itself and then right-click, you can deal with it pretty easily. Also, if you see one, don't go after it immediately. They stay dormant until you trigger them but still count as enemies, if you can leave one alive in a corner somewhere it gives you an opportunity to explore the floor for loot.

  • Eyes' ability combined with Throne Butt and Euphoria mutations makes enemy bullets extremely slow and coupled with a melee weapon like the Sledgehammer or Shovel (and ideally Long Arms mutation) makes for a very powerful and hard-hitting character.

  • It's never a bad idea to carry a bullet weapon around, since other weapon types tend to run out of ammo quickly (primarily due to their much lower ammo caps, 255 to 55 / 555 to 99 with Back Muscle).

  • Never underestimate the power of weapon type-specific mutations (Shotgun Fingers, Laser Brain, Bone Marrow, Recycle Gland, Long Arms). However, unless you're planning on primarily using the weapon type they're bound to, you're better off picking other mutations.

  • Weapons like Triple/Quadruple Machine Gun, Jackhammer and Flamethrower may be powerful, but consume ammo at crazy rates. Use them sparingly.

  • Before taking on any boss (primarily applies to Big Dog but others as well) clear out the area from lesser enemies to prevent them from distracting you during a fight.

  • Melee weapons can reflect (send back at a target) red (and blue IDPD) bullets and deflect (outright destroy) green bullets. Screwdriver destroys all bullets regardless of their type.

  • When spawning in a heavily crowded area (primarily applies to Scrapyard and possibly Labs), try to find a relatively safe corridor/room for you to get a bit of a breath.
Take things slowly! Rushing will probably only get you killed.

  • Do not understimate the default gun, at least the reload time is extremely short. It stays pretty efficient against spawning rats imho. I keep it as long as I don't get the machine gun or until 3-3 (I may take the triple machine gun if I feel I have enough bullets though).

  • Do not understimate the Plutonium hunger, for it also pulls ammo and medikits (hunger + rabbit pawn is nice).

  • Fun fact: Chicken Sword deals the same damage as the Screwdriver.

    Wepons
  • Shovel 3 times per swing (8x3 = 24 damage, enough to oneshot a lot of enemies in the game (excluding those deliberately tanky like Crystals, Snow Tanks or RhinoFreaks).

  • Slugger and crossbow one-shot the ravens, try to get enough ammunition though (do not waste them on rats).
will add more :D

I find a melee weapon helpful with Eyes. Lure enemies to a corner or wall with mind control, and hit them with your melee weapon. Works best for sledge hammer and shovel.
how do you use mind control? ive never figured it out
Hold right click and the enemies will slowly come to you.
lol wow thats a lot easier than i thought! will have to start useing him!
I like to use the shotgun because you can bounce the shot off walls. In a confined space it pretty much instantly kills rats. It also stops the rats from rushing you because your not in line-of-sight.

When facing a large amount of bullets, keep your eyes and focus on your character and dodge accordingly.

Throne butt is usually always the best upgrade choice.

Figure out how many shots it takes to kill a specific enemy to effectively save ammo. (bandits 2, scorpions 6, big maggots 8, rats 4, ). That being said, try to conserve ammo and be as accurate as possible.

Melting can blow up anything dead that's on screen. So cacti are also explodable.

When exiting a level and you see a plutonium crystal you missed, try to shoot it and get what plutonium you can.

Robot's special ability can also give you health (not sure if upgrade required or not).

You can get out of a warp portal if you use Fish's roll. Useful if you missed a chest or something.

Several gun's are better with certain characters. For example, Venuz with a double shotgun/auto slugger and his ability can clear screens pretty effectively.

That's all I have for now. Maybe I'll update.

Assassins can play dead so if you are using melting be sure to use your special ability. If the body doesn't blow up then the assassin is still alive so be careful.

Do not, and I repeat, do not underestimate the Sledge Hammer!

This seems like a good topic to ask:
What the one eyed triangle guys special, "Pop Pop" actualy does?
Only thing I notice is that horn sound at the begining of each level.

starting to get a pretty big list :D and learning a lot of stuff!

What kind of ammo you get depends on the weapon you have equipped.

If you need shotgun shells it makes sense to swich to that weapon before open a chest or pick up ammo
I had no idea about Eyes special ability or Plant's ability with Throne Butt. Plant w/ Throne Butt and Extra Legs is absurdly good!

My sole tip: never use the grenade launcher in the sewers level. Damned rats!
