I did that but without stress + trigger fingers. Id wish even with the YV firereate buff that ammo-less melee would be fast enough to just swing everything to death, like an everlasting ultra shovel.
If they ever nerf melee so it doesnt go through walls or they reduce the damage, i want the firerate for them shortened pronto
Some competent secondary weapon to stock back up on rads and you are golden. until you let two Big Bandits run straight into your face ;_;
What you want to do is get the U-shovel, and a reliable weapon.
You cannot afford on using the U-shovel as your primary, it's only there so you can get through cheesy situations, Bosses, and bad spawns. The other weapon should be something reliable to use 50% of the time to get rid of the other enemies, something like a normal seeker pistol.
In fact, my best run (8400~ Kills) was with that combo. But that was before the UShovel got nerfed.
We'll see how effective the Ushovel is when melee universally gets it's bug fixed where you can slam through walls.
An interesting combo to try (which I yet have not done due to B being broken atm) is to take a reliable non-ultra melee which eats no ammo (lightning hammer..) and Ultra B with throne-butt and Trigger fingers. The use a very ammo intense-weapon (Seeker Shotgun/Cannons) and use it when you get to a cheesy situation to deal with giant masses. Your lightning hammer is there to get rid off the enemies in calm-situations.
I can confirm that lightning hammer + seeker shotgun is pretty great. While I love seeker shotgun, I tend to take other weapons over it unless I have eagle eyes. When I try to use it without it, a lot of shots get wasted. SPC is obviously always fun and good, provided you have strong back.
(Basically, I love the lightning hammer on YV)

They even have animations for when melee swings hit a wall, c'mon.
Anyways, that's atleast what JW said ages ago, could be that he already changed his mind put I hope not.
JW has been clear on multiple streams that melee through walls has been deliberately left in even if it was initially a bug
