Black Sword
Why is it that no one seems to care that it's no longer spawning now? Especially given the patch note that merely claims the following

Former spawn condition: Have the Chicken Sword on your character through at least 1 level generation then discard the sword before L1 1-1. The Black Sword would spawn underneath the player on L1 1-1. This no longer works.

Attempted by yours truly:
  • Loop (and double loop just to be sure) with Chicken Sword
  • Abandon Chicken Sword before looping
  • Reach level Ultra
  • Throw Chicken Sword through a portal (attempted with all 3 variants in a loop)
  • Revisit the Jungle
  • Enter and exit a portal while headless
  • Reclaim your lost head with either Last Wish or Rhino Skin
  • Deposit Chicken Sword into a Proto Chest for later

I'm at a loss for what else to try. The patch notes specifically state that the Chicken Sword itself was changed, which implies to me that it'll transform in some manner into the Black Sword. This is further enforced by the similar tooltips shared between the two swords, "Chicken <feelings> her sword."

However, if the means of getting this to work require someone going completely out of their way, what will be the point of it even existing as an option in the end? Fish's Guitar is good because it's good, it doesn't require that you go through any trials and special backflips to acquire, it's just there for you to either choose to take or not. Same goes for Y.V.'s crib, he doesn't need to do anything particularly special in order to take his pick of the crop. These two characters just have options available to them. I just don't see the incentive to tote around a 6-damage weapon, passing up some very strong alternatives along the way, in order to get a 12-damage replacement. The 120-damage swings don't become something you explicitly incorporate into your playstyle until you reach level Ultra and can take full advantage of your mutations and the extended bleed time. Otherwise it's not something you really want to be doing (or at the very least extremely sparingly), as it'll permanently decrease your max health until you find a health chest that isn't even guaranteed to spawn for you.

  • Loop with Chicken Sword and Crown of Love
  • Loop with 2 Chicken Swords

I am trying some things.

Confirmed not to work:
  • Getting to and completing Cursed Caves with sword.
  • Getting to and completing Cursed Caves without sword.
  • Sword doesn't change upon picking up ultra B
  • Sword doesn't change upon being subjected to necro-circle, both in hand and on ground.

Havent noticed because I never play chicken :P

Alright so a new hunt begins?

Im not doing anything till vlambeer confirms there's no bug related to it, but I can throw some possibilities:

Never lose head during pre-loop

Lose head like 7 times during pre-loop (go to like 1 max HP)

Get throne butt?? sorry if obvious

black sword is pretty ok though. Its just that there are two OP melees that are better.

I care. I was actually going to check your comment on that reddit thread to see if you had found anything before my daily. Made me quite sad to see nothing has been figured out yet :( I'll try some of this stuff out after the daily.

Ok, so I managed to die in a necro circle. Didn't rez. No black sword. But I also didn't have chicken sword. (didn't come through portal when it should have).

I wonder if a white sword will be added, as a counterpoint to the black sword. Black sword is offensive, white sword defensive? (While alive longer lasting arc, multiplier on hp pickup convertion percentage when headless?) Not that she needs any extra defense, just putting that out there
