Nuclear Throne
Persistent Upgrades?
Is this game like Rogue Legacy or Our Darker Purpose, a Rougelike with persistent upgrades? Or is more like, I dunno, Spelunky?

The only upgrades you get are your mutations, which you lose on death, or win.

It's more like Spelunky - but you can earn the right to modify your starting weapon and crown (game mutation)

Pick some when leveling and lose all on death. Like Spine said you can collect Golden weapons (alternate start weapons with boosted stats) and crowns (slight game-changers)

It is definitely more like Spelunky in that you lose your in-game progress, but you do unlock new characters, crowns (strange gameplay modifiers), b-skins, and golden weapons to start your runs with. Most of the focus however is on progressing by improving your own skills and knowledge. Runs are a bit shorter than in Spelunky in general, getting to the Throne takes about 10-15 minutes for an experienced player and can be done in under 5.

That's a bummer. I like games with a real sense of progress. I just bought it last night though - worth the ten or so dollars and good for a couple hours of fun.
