Nuclear Throne

Transferring progress
Okay, so my laptop stopped working properly so I have been replacing the hard drive. In the meantime, I installed steam on an older computer so I could play nuclear throne. However, none of my data transferred over and I’m worried that by redownloading steam onto the new hard drive, it also won’t transfer my progress. Is there a way to make sure that I keep my progress? For example, would it work if instead of downloading steam again on the new hard drive, I were to migrate steam from my old hard drive to my new one?

You could install the game in both places and just ship the save file over. It is located in your appdata folders. They are hidden folders but a quick Google Search should show how you can navigate there easily. (I'm on my phone so I'd rather not write it out right now.) let me know how it goes!

How do I get to the save file if I've already taken out the old hard drive and put in a new one?

If you cannot access your old save then it might be worth fiddling with steam cloud saves but be careful because it could lose your save file as well. I don't know how you would otherwise transfer it if you cannot access your old drive.

There's a handy shortcut for Windows users that's fairly easy to remember.
%localappdata%/NuclearThrone

If you're on windows at least the linked guide provides straightforward instructions as to how to get to your save file and what to edit for certain things.
If you physically cannot use your old harddrive, all you have to do is follow the same instructions on teh guide but on whatever harddrive you're using now
Which characters did you have unlocked? What Alternate skins did you have unlocked? The guide tells you how to unlock them

I can't open the .sav file though. I'm on mac but don't have wordedit.

Any text editor should be able to read the .sav file. It's just a text file with the extension changed. I've never used a Mac, but if you can rename the file and extension, just change it to nuclearthrone.txt. That will let you open it in your text editor and you can rename it back to nuclearthrone.sav when you're done.
