Can't even INSTALL the game
Just bought a DVD jewel russian version. Game don't even begin to install, launching Setup.exe leads to an error message "No language configured." And considering an icon on taskbar it is a Steam error message! Tryed it on the same computer under WinXP and Win7 - exactly the same behavior...

Wow, such unbelievable customer support...

Why are you expecting customer support in a Steam forum for a game you apparently didn't even buy on Steam? I don't think the devs even come here now, except when new updates or trailers are released. If you want customer support you'll need to go to the company directly, not post on a third-party forum about it.

...actually, making this even more absurd, I just realized the game's official website says it is for sale ONLY AS A DOWNLOAD. If you bought a Russian DVD copy then you prrrobably have an illegal bootleg copy and you're in here whining about getting customer support for it? Nice.

I think "ed" is right. You might've gotten an illegal copy(or just junk software or even nothing at all). If you can get your money back from the store you bought it from you should try that.

You will buy Russian.

This might be a "download only" game in your region, but I can assure you that disk I bought is a licenced copy. It has a registration code inside, Steam installer on disk and has been bought in a store that simply don't sell pirated games. Disk copy has russian subtitles, that's why it is distributed on physical medium. Here's the link to a SoftClub site, company that's doing translation and distribution for a whole range of games and platforms in Russia: http://www.softclub.ru/games/pc/22683-styx-master-of-shadows

I found link to this forum inside setup.ini file from disk's root directory. Yes, I didn't bought this game on Steam, so what? You've never seen disk game that registers in Steam during installation?

I ask for help here because error message has Steam symbol on it and is obviously Steam related. Too bad I can't put a pic in here: http://imglink.ru/show-image.php?id=812dfa6c72d35adc4dcdfe88e7e8c225

I Googled your error message and it seems that this problem appears for a wide variety of Steam games and no-one is able to give a definite fix or reason as to why this error appears.

It might be that the installer doesn't recognise the language of your system (or doesn't support it) so you could try changing your language to something like "English (US)", seeing if it will install and then changing it back.

Another suggestion that seems to have worked for some people is to reboot your computer (not sure if this is needed but it can't hurt) and then browse to the "setup.exe" on the DVD, right click and select "Run as Administrator".

If all else fails you should be able to register your key by going to the "Games" menu in steam and selecting "Active a product on Steam". Then follow the instructions that appear. This will add the game to your library and you can then download it. Not ideal but at least you will have the game. The total installed size is just over 7GB so the download will be slightly less as it is compressed. Once you have the download you can back it up so you don’t have to download it all again.

Hope this helps, good luck :)

PS: The game will only run on Windows Vista SP2 or higher so I don't think it will ever install properly on Windows XP

As I said before I tryed to install on Win7 too. System language is set to default as English

But I didn't knew about installation option within Steam interface. Thank you, it worked!

Nybble, thanks again. Game is downloaded, installed and runs under WinXP.
This whole thing simply reminded me why I play much more on consoles this days :)
