Rayman Legends

[Placeholder] Error during load, you will lose your current progression
We were thoroughly enjoying this game, then I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 and after a few games I started receiving this error message at the menu screen. There’s no way past it. I’ve seen this posted on a few forums but no solutions.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- Backing up and deleting my save game from My Documents/SavedGames/Rayman Legends
- Backing up and deleting the files from Program Files/Steamapps/Common/Rayman Legends/Gamesave
- Uninstalling the game and Uplay. I used Revo Uninstaller to make ensure all game data is wiped. Reinstalled Uplay from their website, rather than through Steam.
- Running Uplay in compatibility mode for Windows 7
- Running Uplay as an administrator
- Starting Uplay and the game without being connected to the internet

Now I’m out of ideas. At this point, I wouldn’t mind beginning the game from scratch but I can’t get past this blooming error message!

10 has a lot of problems. If possible, go back to 7 and wait at least a few months. Microsoft will likely not fix a thing, but nvidia/amd might improve their drivers by that point.

Ok it seems I've finally fixed it with some help from Ubisoft support. Here's the solution which worked for me:

For Permissions issue can you try the following?
For the saved game folder and the game folder
1. Right click an affected folder.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click the Security tab
Can you now edit the permissions for 'Home Users' and ‘Administrators’? Make sure it is set to 'Allow'

If the same issue happens again can you try the following?
Right click an affected folder.
Click Properties.
Click the Security tab
Click the "Advanced" button.
Click "Change" next to Owner.
Type your Account name, click the "Check Names" button, and then click OK.
Check "Replace owner on sub containers and objects" under the owner's name.
Click OK again. If you get a message saying "Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you full control?", click "Yes" and you're done.
Click the "Edit" button.
Click on your Windows Account name from the list.
Check "Full control" underneath it.
Click OK twice

Hi, I got this error message when i Run the game for the first time today. I don't have folder My Documents/SavedGames/Rayman Legends on my PC. Also C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rayman Legends seems to have my current user as the owner. Do you know if it could happen that the game didn't create a saved folder and how to fix the error in this case ?

Did you manage to get the game working?

Any progress? I've run into the same issue. What I still haven't attempted is adding the executables through "Controlled folder access" in Windows. Under "Windows Security/Virus and threat protection/Ransomware protection". I've cleaned my registry and am about to reinstall the game. I'll report my findings after.

That was it for me. I found that the protected folder issue affected other games as well, so instead of adding countless exceptions, I just turned off the feature altogether.

Yep! This seem to have fixed it for me aswell. Would've been nice if Microsoft had had some sort of notification when an app is blocked. I've seen issues with other apps aswell when saving files to my documents folder.

Edit: turns out I've disabled notifications. Not gotten any yet but, thats probably why I missed it.

Hi Lurkas, All, I just checked my Windows Defender settings, I had "Windows Security/Virus and threat protection/Ransomware protection" switched off. But still not able to run the game. What else you think I should try ?

What have you tried so far? Are you getting the placeholder error or is it in anyway different? I think the placeholder error only has to do with permissions and security settings. If there is another error such as an application error/crash it might indicate some other issue.

Before I tried the controlled folder access thing I made sure to uninstall the game completely.

If you run the game as an administrator and controlled folder access is disabled, and you still get this exact error, I'd assume you have some other security measures in place. Could be anything related to folder permissions or anti-virus software. :S

Opened ticket at Ubisoft support last Friday, no reply so far. Error is exactly as mentioned as topic of this discussion.

I didn't uninstall the game. Have only standard Windows Defender as antivirus. Only tried to start game as administrator and made sure game folder permissions are in place for the user. But I was not able to locate folder with save games on my PC. What is the save game folder location you have for the game on your PC ?

I'm not sure. I haven't looked into the folders. However, if you run the game as an administrator that really shouldnt matter. Try disabling the anti-virus temporarily or add the exe to the whitelist. I'd try reinstalling the game aswell. :S

Have a case with Ubisoft support without a resolution since Fri, 5 Apr 2019, no update

Same problem (crashes on startup). No solution from Ubisoft. Any compatibility modes don't work. Running game as an administrator doesn't help. Looks like the problem is msvcr100.dll. It's a pity... Great game.
