Can you switch characters or choose a character in local multiplayer?

New here to Rayman and trying to set it up for my kids to play together. Is there a way for them to choose the character to use? So far, they just exchange controllers.

You can change the character you play as at the Hero’s portrait in the Main Gallery, which is the place with the different worlds, on the left side. You can’t change your character during levels and you have to unlock them by reaching a certain amount of Lums.
