BUG: Can't paste text in the chat, getting underscore character

So I run the game through Steam, on Windows 7, all is up to date, I've verified the files once but I never was able to paste text in the chat, when I do it pastes an underscore character instead.

I don't have the overlay problem or any other bugs.

What you are seeing is not copy paste. That's messages being sent more than since because someone has a bad conection to the host. That or they have macros set to thei keyboard/ mouse to type text and just keep pressing that button over and over making it look like copy paste.

Can be mistaken for someone spamming but it's really just the connection to the host being bad.

And I know because I've been playing the game for over 600 hours, I think someone would know after that amount of time ;)

And I also don't see why there would need to be a copy paste function anyways

It's a text input field so pasting should be allowed, it's clearly a bug.

I think Overkill was trying to prevent copy/paste to keep the chat log readable and so people can't just spam it with garbage. It's not a bug. It works like it's supposed to. If you think otherwise, take it up with Overkill.

OK then you think it's a bug, answer this. How many games do you know that have copy paste in game chat? How many don't have in game copy paste? I think you'll find it is normal games don't have copy paste

Many games might not allow it but it's still useful to tell some important and long information. It's spamed anyway by bad connection and macros, so it's better to allow it for those who truely need it. Anyway, discussion closed.

You could just copy and paste through the Steam Chat if you really need to do it that badly.

When you copy something, press the Insert key on your keyboard when in-game to paste. I know it's a necro but no-one seemed to mention this.

Why bring up such an old post with incorrect information? Moreover, you haven't even played PAYDAY: The Heist (do not confuse it with PD2). The game has no support for copying or pasting text (be it with ctrl-v or shift-insert); It only listens for separate key presses and simply displays each key you press. There's a hint of mouse support in the code, but even that doesn't work.
