Questions marks above words.
So, do the question marks that sit above the untranslated Other World language have any meaning? I've seen some have only one ?, while other have three or four.

That was added in version 3. Previously they were all single question marks. We'll find out on November 1st when the game releases!

I saw someone mention it's the amount of characters the word consists of (in Japanese) so it's not very useful to non-Japanese players

Although that's certainly possible, I'm not convinced that it's true. That would mean that there is a "correct" translation for each word, whereas in practise there would be no penalty for entering a synonym, for example, fast/quick/rapid/speedy. So, in an equivalent English system based on number of syllables, if I think the word is "rapid" but the game indicates that the correct word has only one syllable, that would be misleading.

I think that the mentionned someone is me.
You can see from the japanese trailer that each question marks are japanese characters: https://x.com/yatu3zi/status/1840587622873231844
It sucks for non-Japanese speakers, but it is what it is until the dev decides to adapt it depending of the language.
