So this is Ace Combat without the story that makes Ace Combat good?
For the record, I'm not talking about Assault Horizon, because that game sucked.

I'll wait on this game and see what they actually manage to produce.

They claim 150 aircraft already in the game, but really it's only 16. On his website he doesn't even list the F-18 or F-14, for example. I know there are "variants" but come on. You're missing a ton of aircraft already.

There's a lot missing, and I know it's the early release, but he's insistent on the forums and the website that it's a polished early release.

When the storyline has no story and there's less planes to choose from than most other fighter games, I think I'll pause.

We claim because that aspect is true. If you don't think variants and offshoots don't count as aircraft I don't know what to tell you, and most of those aircraft you've listed are in or past modeling stage, not fit for game implementation yet, but in active development.

And it's rather bold to state we have no story as an expectation when we have said we don't want to put story in EA yet.

If you have the EA you'll recognize our available aircraft and if you poke around the files, you'll have more proof.

That is if you do have the game, which you don't. We say what we say and promise what we do is to reassure people that certain game aspects and features will be in, not to say what won't. We intend to keep production promises at the expense of not rushing them out to appease the impatient.

I can understand your point.

If we count just one aircraft for each family, that will leave us with only a small number, but that means we will be ignoring the large variety of roles the other variants offer.
Also there are already two variants of the F-14 in the game, and in that list I’ve omitted aircrafts that don’t have enough variants to be considered a family

But despite the large number of aircraft that the game has, it is far from being the only selling point. In my opinion I feel that what it is really important is to have solid and fun gameplay, everything else should be build upon that. And that is what this initial release was interested in offering.

I can also understand if you are disappointed for the lack of story in campaigns, but that is why the game is still in development

That is great to hear.
In the next update, the challenge of the J 35 Mod 4 will be updated to add the final part of that story.
The two campaigns we do have have storylines behind them, quite extensive ones based in the world we're constructing for VT. In Early Access we've gone for stability and reliability instead of content, which means that those two campaigns and the challenges are very, very incomplete. I'm responsible for working on Juniper Thunder, which is undergoing a complete rehaul with one mission completely being changed and an entirely new mission which will serve to introduce the player to VT's world and environment.
From what I can gather it's almost like the Corporate War of Ace Combat 3.
There are currently 4 campaigns planned for VT. The first two are ingame and are undergoing rewriting, and the last two will be implemented once more features have been patched in.

Steam Workshop will definitely be coming, TS already confirmed it. Players can, indeed, make their own campaigns to share with others. I'm setting one up that a lot of people will love to play. :D
Hey there is two campaigns with some background already. It's not a cinematic experience like AC, but the devs said it'll be done sometime in the future.
Try the campaigns, there's a lot of fun missions.

As for the planes, there is a lot of them, but the problem is that you cannot use them everywhere, the campaigns for example have pre-defined ones and for the other modes you have to unlock them in challenge first, which proves to be a real challenge haha

For a Alpha/Early Access game i found it with lots of content and fun if you have patience to look everywhere.
You can unlock aircraft manually by changing the StartLocked=true to StartLocked=false in their .ini file. I highly recommend it if you find that you cannot beat a challenge or one isn't in the game yet.

But that would be cheating ='(

Just kidding haha, i found it when i was editing the .ini to use my custom skin.
I particularly prefer not to have a plane because i suck at some challenge, than to edit files to unlock them. I kinda like the idea of "earn it to use it".
