This vs Ace Combat 4 and 5?
Ace combat 4 and 5 were my favorite ever flight combat games (not sure what the genre is called). I'm starting this thread to find out what some similarities and differences are, but I am NOT trying to start a thread wherein people critisize either game. The Devs of this game obviously put a lot of work into this game and I'm sure it's not going to be exactly like Ace Combat.

I'm downloading the game right now, got a couple hours at least until it's done, and am just hoping that I can get an idea of what to expect in the meanwhile. Thank you.

Arcade Air-Combat Action games, as some devs call them.

There are two main gameplay modes in VT - Arcade, which is closer to the Ace Combat system, and "Realistic" which tries to be a bit more 'believable' and, among other things, lets you use countermeasures such as Flares and Chaff.

Broadly speaking, the Ace Combat games are rather well polished, and in comparision Vector Thrust remains in an early state of development. Even though VT has quite a bit of content, the core Ogre engine can still crash for silly reasons on occassion, and the polish is missing.

The real plus that VT offers is that you can basically make your own game. Adding or editing content, making and using skins, and even Mission and Campaign design are quite easy once you wrap your mind around them.

Overall, Ace Combat series are the better games, but VT is a better sandbox (mostly because AC has negligible sandbox elements) and has quite a bit of potential.

The community is quite small and has grown smaller lately, since no one has seen TimeSymmetry (The Dev, yes one guy made most of this) since November last year.

Some people have been working on VT in the meantime, though.
There's a community patch to be DL'ed on ModDB, along with lots of other content there and in the Workshop. I'll be making some skins and a campaign over the next month, and i assume that there are others doing something or the other in VT.

None that I've found, though you can also look up Project Wingman or Ace Combat 7
