So how did you guys find yourselves in the Hololive rabbithole?

For me it's thanks to Trash Taste's Joey (The Anime Man) and Connor (CDawgVA) roasting Garnt (Gigguk) over sending a superchat to Kiryu Coco during her 3D model debut stream.

Before that, I was (kind of) already familiar with VTubers. Kizuna AI, Mirai Akari, Kaguya Luna... Heck, I even watched Virtual-san wa Miteiru which was my introduction to more VTubers like the HimeHina duo, Siro and Tsukino Mito (though I didn't know Sora and Roboco at the time). But besides those, I didn't really watch them that much. Too few or zero translated clips and subtitled videos to provide context, and the VTubers' focus was on the JP audience (plus hardcore weebs). Not to mention livestreaming as a VTuber was still in its infancy (or I didn't bother watching because of slow Internet speeds).

I guess once Hololive started its meteoric rise thanks to its collab with Azur Lane (sadly, no more rerun[s]) and promotion by the Trash Taste boys did I also (in hindsight) notice the emergence of clipper channels who make translated clips of the (JP) Hololive talents, making VTuber content more accessible than before. Ditto Kiryu Coco herself, whose bilingual ability accommodated both JP and foreign audiences (and then there's the guilty pleasure of tuning in to her Reddit Meme Reviews upon her return from suspension to spite a certain bunch of antis :P).

And now I'm here. Enjoying HoloCure for its solid gameplay is a bonus.

This all seems strange to me. No idea what everyone is talking about as I don't watch or follow any Vtubers or Hololivers.

I just want to play this game because it seems like a nice Vampire Survivors clone and all the characters are anime-like characters. There is even a gacha-like mechanic to unlock characters. (Without having to pay of course)

I simply saw this game mentioned while watching a "top VS clones video" on Ytube.

But I have seen and heard of "Kizuna AI" before in another gacha game. I used to play Epic 7 back in the days and there is a meme character called "Kizuna AI" that was added to the game. Her Ultimate attack is a fake version of ML Ken's ultimate and it looked hilarious.

Funnily enough it was Pikamee. I occasionally saw some clips(and a lot of fan art) but I mostly ignored/avoided vtuber stuff. The clip that broke the camels back was a clip of Pikamee playing subnautica I saw on twitter(have never found it since and honestly I can't even remember it clearly).

It didn't have her name though and none of the comments said it. So I used what little vtuber knowledge I had and googled "Vtuber that made the letter A trend" which I remembered seeing. Lead me to Gura, which ultimately lead me to Ina who did a collab with Pikamee which is how I found her channel. Don't remember the exact date, but it was sometime in the month before Irys debuted as hers what the first debut I ever watched.

I used to randomly watch people play GTA on Nico Nico Douga especially that one dude with chaos mod (Matsun? I think with Yukuri voice) and I was familiar with Kizuna Ai. So when the N word compilation got popular, I got curious and checked them out and ended up watching clips of a certain silly shrine maiden and then certain goofy dog.

Back in 2019, right after Gen 4 debuted I started seeing videos on my recommended of these anime girls playing Minecraft. Actually, the first thing I saw was of Nijisanji livers trolling each other (the Tragedy of Sasaki's Roxas) and thought they were all involved together. Then of course Coco took off in a huge way, bridged the gap, became beloved, and I just stuck with it - mostly through clips.

It was Calli playing Getting Over It for the first time, and screaming every time she failed so miserably. She had a really cool design (that whole "I hope you remember me" phrase at the end was such a clever little touch), and her voice and personality stood out. Since then, she's also liked/played a lot of the same games I do. Her rapping is actually what I listen to the least, but I respect her work ethic.

Then I saw those clips of Korone's English-only Super Mario Bros. stream, and I was hooked. From there, it was Miko attempting to speak English and being hilarious at everything, Then it was Subaru learning English, Moona doing Minecraft for chill background noise, and any of Council playing whatever. Fauna is the best gamer in Council overall, but all of them excel when pushed. These days, I occasionally just have one of their streams on replay in the background while I'm working my own projects.

My first exposure of hololive was a clip of Pekora saying "Oh no, jesus" while playing minecraft. I was an avid Kizuna Ai fan at the time and didn't think much of it until later when I discovered a clipper that made videos of a bunch of smaller clips. I think that clipped left with the china controversy and I don't remember their name.

I watched Morphoduction's Gawr Gura Experience video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zC7j8nuZYk and was struck by the feels at the end of it, so I decided to dig a bit deeper. 2 years later and I'm very buried. A+ time, would do it again.
