Save data transfer.
Update: now that the game is actually out i can confirm it is really easy to transfer your dave data on the steam deck. Here's how. First you have to make sure you have "show hidden folders" enabled then
1. Open"Home"
2. Open "steam"
3. Open"steamapps"
4. Open "compatdata"
5. You will see folders with a bunch of numbers just follow the next steps on every folder until you find the folder for holocure. ( you need both the download versions folder and the steam versions folder)
6. In the folder for holocure open "pfx"
7. Open "drive_c"
8. Open "users"
9. Open "steamuser"
10. Open "appdata"
11. Open "local"
12. Open "holocure"
13. Your save file will be named "save_n.dat" or something similar.
14. Copy and paste "save_n.dat" from the download versions folder and into the steam versions folder.
15. Launch the game and you should have all your save data. ( also be prepared to be bombarded by achievements)

I play holocure on the steam deck which makes updating very annoying, however the steam version would fix this but I don't want to loose all my save data. Will I be able to transfer my download save data over to the steam version?

https://twitter.com/HoloCureGame/status/1661130495755948032 according to this tweet you won't lose it

I don't know how steam deck works but usually you can find your save data here:
Local Disk:\Users\Your Usernamei\AppData\Local\HoloCure

Nice being able to keep the save data means im definitely switching to the steam version. Its annoying to update on steam deck since it runs on linux. On windows downloading the new version will automatically replace the files as needed but on linux you have to do it manually which for me at least is usually about an hour or more of trying to get the game to launch with my save data still there.

On the steamdeck you will probably need to copy your save data manually i found mine at:
"/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/3119141607/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/HoloCure/"
3119141607 is my app ID for HoloCure yours will be different. if you have multiple versions of HoloCure added to steam, make sure you get the latest one.
after downloading the game, copy your save and settings from there into the official folder.
I think the official folder will be:
"/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/2420510/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/HoloCure/"
but that is just a guess.

I really hope HoloCure gets steam cloud save support.

Game has "Steam Cloud" listed on the page, so it's safe to assume it will.

Yeah it definetely will. The dev has also repeatedly confirmed it on his twitter account.

He made the save files work between devices a patch or so prior to the steam release. It will already work fine for steam cloud.
will it have Steam Cloud on release ?
because I have to play on 2 places now, might have to use USB if there's no cloud.

PS. I see there is Steam cloud on Store page so it should be implement from Day1

If you're on windows you don't have to do anything.
make a back up of your save if you want to.

If you're transferring from one device (Itch.io ver.) to another device (Steam ver.)

Save location: AppData\Local\HoloCure

As long as you've save once with ver.0.5 of the game, all you need to do is copy "save_n.dat" from your old device to the same location in the new device.

Update on this, you will have to manually copy over save file on steam deck (atleast for me)
I booted Holocure on a windows laptop first to sync it to the cloud, then after I did that and played around for a bit, I loaded it up on deck and it showed up just fine.

Played the game before without using the launcher, Build 2/21/2023

So for those of you transferring your save from the itch.io version (played via Lutris or other) the directory will be where your steam library you installed holocure is and in my case i put it on another drive. so with that...

?/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/2420510/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local Settings/Application Data/HoloCure/

this should give you the steam app id. hope this helps. everything transferred well and on my machine i needed to let things settle as all the achievements rolled right on in.
