super collabs, how to find them?
The number of possibilities between collabs and items is huge. Not to mention, it all depends on the rng of a run.

Is there some sort of hint somewhere I would have missed... or is this one of the sadistic sides of a "gatcha"/shooter game?

Yeah, they're there to be found by accident, and then you share the information with others.
I got Snow Queen by accident.
Snow Flower Sake + regular Sake is one of the more logical ones alongside Idol Concert + Idol Costume. Like, if you know that Super Collabs are a thing that exists (not guaranteed; even the achievement that's technically for creating your first doesn't actually use the term "Super Collab" or otherwise explain how to get it), the recipe for Idol Live is probably the first one a reasonable person would try followed shortly by Snow Queen. Someone going for a gimmicky build could reasonably put Elite Cooking in a food-based build for flavor (pun not intended but noticed and left in) and end up accidentally discovering one. The last, Holy Fire, is definitely so inside-baseball that it's standing on the pitcher's mound but it's far from the only part of the game that relies on knowledge of the source material.
Pretty much. I guessed Idol Live and Jingisukan right away, since those are the most logical. Snow Queen is also logical, though I admit I had to look that one up because I forgot the Sake item exists. Holy Fire though... yeeeeah, if you don't know the relationship between Coco and Kanata (both of which are JP Gen 4 and thus not in the game yet), you're only likely to find it via blind luck or a guide.

I found all of the colabs and super colabs without a wiki and without knowing anything about Holo. It helps that there are a few rules the game applies.

The 1st has to do with normal colabs. Almost all weapons are involved in 3 colabs. I
think only 1 does not have 3 colabs, and that is probably a mathematical issue. Just check your list of colabs count how many colabs you have with each weapon and then start bringing the weapons that have less than 3 colabs into stages together. Xp boosting items or an anvil related items help with making more colabs in a round.

The 2nd rule has to do with the way super colabs are made. All super colabs require a golden hammer, but more importantly you can't get a golden hammer unless you have the colab weapon that turns into a super colab. This means if at any point you have a golden hammer, one of your colabs is able to be made into a super colab. Just take a screenshot and save which colabs you have for later. If you want even more of a hint than that in the top right corner you will see the 1st piece of the golden hammer (half the shaft of it) form when you pick up a colab that can turn into a super colab. Every colab after that will give you another 3rd of a golden hammer, but those aren't necessarily super colab making colabs, just the 1st that starts making the golden hammer. If you pay attention to that corner after you get each colab you will see which colab makes super colabs.

There is a lot of content in HoloCure, but either taking notes or paying close attention can let find all of it without a guide.
