Fishing Minigame Ideas/Suggestions
I want to start out by thanking KayYu and co for making this amazing, completely free game.

Seriously, you're all awesome! :steamthumbsup::steamthumbsup:

So I just wanted to share some ideas I have for making the Fishing in this game
more enjoyable and less frustrating. The major issues for me are how long each
fishing attempt takes, especially relative to the amount of fish you get; the fact that
the type of fish you get is based on RNG; and the Effect of Combo and how easy and frustrating it can be to lose.

These are my suggestions:

-Instead of having Combo build up over multiple attempts, it's better for it to affect each individual attempt. So each time you fill the Combo meter the quality and quantity of the fish increases along with the speed. It would keep increasing until the player fails, after which they would receive fish for each level of Combo. So if you lose at Combo 1 you might get 1 Shrimp, if you reach Combo 4 you could get 3 Shrimp and 2 Clownfish, etc. It doesn't have to be one fish per Combo and in case it wasn't obvious, your Combo resets after each attempt.

-Each Rod catches different Fish. The Old Rod, for example, would catch Shrimp and Clownfish normally, but at higher Combo could start catching Tuna, Lobster, etc. Then
the Dad's Rod would start at Tuna, Blacksmith Rod at...Pufferfish, I think?
Anyway, I think you can get the idea lol. Fishing with lower level Rods should still be
easier than fishing with higher level ones so it's easy to get low quality fish, of course higher quality fish would be much more valuable to compensate. It could work like Difficulty levels.

-The last thing I can think of is a Fishing skill level, like the Manager skill, that increases the amount of fish and how much the Combo meter fills with each press. It would gain Experience from each fishing session depending on the Combo achieved.

That's all for now, been loving the game so far heh. If anyone has other ideas feel free to post them as well.

One thing I'd kind of like would be the ability to purchase fish if we've already caught at least one of that type. Probably for 2-3x the sand you get for selling it. That way you wouldn't be quite as at the mercy of RNG if you want to use a particular food recipe or have workers demanding rare fish.

Came back to suggest the same thing.

Even if they're exorbitantly expensive, I don't mind.

When I have five out of 8 workers who want to be fed Tuna, and I fish 254 times and only get 4 Tuna, that's when I decide it would be good if we could buy fish. :steamhappy:

EDIT: also great ideas in the OP.

Yeah I know the feeling lol.

I think the issue with being able to buy Fish is it kind of makes Fishing a bit pointless,
since money isn't really hard to get...but Fish are needed for Cooking which is rather
useful, so for accessibility's sake it would be nice. I can't really imagine the Shark selling
it's precious fish though...

It seems like when you have the Atlantis rod (third-best), Shrimp and Tuna become the rarest of the normal fish.

I now have 5 workers who want shrimp.

I get about 5 whole shrimp every 100 catches. Not very fun.

If we could be able to switch back and use the first rod, we'd have a 1/3 chance of catching shrimp and tuna. This doesn't seem balanced.

You can switch back to other Rods in the Buy menu.

The amount of fish you get still isn't really enough.

Regarding the Farm, I think we should have more than 8 places to plant food, since you can also wind up with a lot of workers who demand specific veggies.

Ah yeah I think so too, I was just saying that you can equip different Rods that
you've unlocked.

Thanks, Collector.

No problem, I've had similar things happen to me in other games lol.

Wow that made things a whole lot easier.

I just got the Atlantean Rod.

It occurs to me: shouldn't the higher-tier rods make it EASIER to catch fish?

And yet, the higher you go in tier, the faster the minigame becomes, and the harder it is to catch fish. It would seem that if you spend 250,000 sand on a rod, it should be easier to catch fish than the cheap rods.

At this rate I figure the Golden Rod will be the speed equivalent of a 50 combo for the second-tier rod, and I won't be able to catch the first cast.
Sukaiba Aug 26, 2023 @ 5:49pm
For Clownfish and Tuna fish you can use the Atlantean Rod, you CAN use an earlier rod but they won't bite THAT much more frequently, and you'll miss on the extra feesh you'd gain from using a superior rod

About feeshing

I think the best improvements possible would be with the combo and the inputs

I think flawless catches (aka no misinputs) should get you 2 score to the combo, and maybe perfect catches (aka no misinputs + all Good) should get you 3 score instead

And I think when it comes to the QTE minigame, I think it would be a good change that in the input slider, the game held onto the most urgent input, atleast until the next input overlaps it, then the game gets rid of the overlapped input and counts it as a miss

Higher tier Rods tend to fill up faster and, as Sukaiba pointed out, give greater amounts of fish. For example a yellow exclamation mark takes 3 presses with the Old Rod but only 2 with the Blacksmith Rod. So it balances out. Although it is true that you're more likely to lose your Combo if you're not careful.

I agree that fishing skill would be a good addition, maybe higher fishing skill makes the minigame more forgiving or easier to catch high level fish

I wouldn't mind a bit of gentleness as someone who sucks at rhythm minigames.
It's one of those awkward things where I will likely almost 100% this game, but the 50 fish Combo will remain beyond my skill + patience at something completely outside of the game's core gameplay. >_<
