Modding?
Like add new attacks, randomize (skills, enemies, bosses), skins, etc.
Possible?

99% sure this will never happen. This is a fangame and Kay had to have a long talk with Cover (the company behind Hololive and Holostars) to get the game on Steam. Cover is somewhat protective with their IPs. They state that any derivative work is fine as long as it is not made to profit off of it or if it doesn't damage the reputation of the talents or the company as a whole. If there was to be a Steam workshop that last part would be completely out of Covers or Kays control which is why I am 99% certain it will never happen.

Holocure is made in Gamemaker. Gamemaker just isn't designed in a way that works well with modding so it's hard to mod. Even if a dev wants modding to be easy Gamemaker doesn't have a way of doing that.

There have been some mods in the past but it will probably be a while before there's anything for the current version of the game.

Maybe we won't get official Workshop support but people are already doing mods for the game like adding Pippa

More info I found about modding the game:

Game Maker games are known to be pretty easy to mod even without any official support (See: Undertale and Pizza Tower), so given this game's popularity and, indeed, modding potential, a third-party tool is bound to crop up sooner or later.

0.5 got both the Pippa and Henya character mods right before 0.6 came out, but 0.6 switched to a new engine/format(?). From what I've seen on the Discord, it's harder to even datamine the new data from game, but it's only been out in this form for a few weeks.

It took a year before, so I don't doubt it will happen again sometime, especially if Kay Yu sees the desire and tries to help make it possible (which I don't think is out of question despite the first commenter's answer).

I also heard the same back when Kay Yu announced the change in the code format. However, it seems the dev for the Pippa mod was able to make it work for the 0.6 update. I posted the link above.

He said he got lucky so I'm not sure if other modders will be able to update their mods for the 0.6 release.

So far, the only way to mod it is by replacing the whole "data.win" file. So you pretty much have to have a separate install for each mod. Maybe someone will come up with a mod manager later. I doubt Kay Yu has the time to work on mod support, while still busy adding more talents.

Considering this is GM2, I say give it some time until people start making mod tools for the game (thats what happened to Pizza Tower).

You probably already know, but the Pippa dev used a dev version of 0.6 using the old engine (which Kay seems a bit mad about). Kay calls it a 'leak' but others say someone accidentally posted it for a few minutes.....hard to tell with no context and only a few snippets of Discord conversations

Seems Pippa dev still plans on trying to tackle 0.6 YYC with others, but that will take a while if they figure it out at all.

Also, I'm not sure why so many people can't read Kay Yu's post correctly and try to say he banned mods.

i can implement a framework for replacing existing game sprite where you can replace the game sprite and add or subtract the amount of frames an animated sprite has.

you just need to place the sprite in a custom directory like <game directory>/mods/textures/mycustomsprite.png

this is the most surface level modding you can have right now, though i plan on implementing a high level modding api support later

I did read something about the mod being made with a different method or as you say, an older version of the game engine but I didn't know that Kay Yu was upset about it. Thanks for sharing that.

Well at the end of the day is just like Kay Yu said, he can't ban people from making mods but we should only take in consideration the gray legal status that Holocure has and at least not make a mod that could defame their talents or hurt Cover.

Honestly, the Pippa dev was an idiot for intentionally being dumb in the thread announcing no official mod support, so some of the frustration was likely from that and not just a dev version being in the wild.

As unenforceable as it would be, Kay is within his rights to make a blanket ban statement on Holocure mods, but he specifically said he wouldn't go after them. As long as nobody goes too far with mods like you said, it should be just fine. Even more so because I imagine modders will be a bit quieter because of all the people with no reading comprehension trying to 'protect the purity' of Holocure like tribalists.

And maybe a bit more explicit titles if another Vtuber plays a mod with them in it, since even Pippa changed her streams title to make it clear it was a mod.
