There have been some mods in the past but it will probably be a while before there's anything for the current version of the game.
More info I found about modding the game:
https://www.reddit.com/r/holocure/comments/14itfty/comment/jpleyna/
It took a year before, so I don't doubt it will happen again sometime, especially if Kay Yu sees the desire and tries to help make it possible (which I don't think is out of question despite the first commenter's answer).
I also heard the same back when Kay Yu announced the change in the code format. However, it seems the dev for the Pippa mod was able to make it work for the 0.6 update. I posted the link above.
He said he got lucky so I'm not sure if other modders will be able to update their mods for the 0.6 release.
You probably already know, but the Pippa dev used a dev version of 0.6 using the old engine (which Kay seems a bit mad about). Kay calls it a 'leak' but others say someone accidentally posted it for a few minutes.....hard to tell with no context and only a few snippets of Discord conversations
Seems Pippa dev still plans on trying to tackle 0.6 YYC with others, but that will take a while if they figure it out at all.
Also, I'm not sure why so many people can't read Kay Yu's post correctly and try to say he banned mods.
Official statement on mods.
you just need to place the sprite in a custom directory like <game directory>/mods/textures/mycustomsprite.png
this is the most surface level modding you can have right now, though i plan on implementing a high level modding api support later
I did read something about the mod being made with a different method or as you say, an older version of the game engine but I didn't know that Kay Yu was upset about it. Thanks for sharing that.
Well at the end of the day is just like Kay Yu said, he can't ban people from making mods but we should only take in consideration the gray legal status that Holocure has and at least not make a mod that could defame their talents or hurt Cover.
Honestly, the Pippa dev was an idiot for intentionally being dumb in the thread announcing no official mod support, so some of the frustration was likely from that and not just a dev version being in the wild.
As unenforceable as it would be, Kay is within his rights to make a blanket ban statement on Holocure mods, but he specifically said he wouldn't go after them. As long as nobody goes too far with mods like you said, it should be just fine. Even more so because I imagine modders will be a bit quieter because of all the people with no reading comprehension trying to 'protect the purity' of Holocure like tribalists.
And maybe a bit more explicit titles if another Vtuber plays a mod with them in it, since even Pippa changed her streams title to make it clear it was a mod.
