If you turn off items and weapons in the shop and use a character whose fandom level is maxed out, you'll almost always get to choose a stat upgrade when you level up, since there's nothing else it can really offer you at that point.
As for items I ignore... I typically ignore chance-based items such as Sake and Headphones, just because I tend to have pretty awful luck.
I also ignore anything that comes with a penalty; the only exception being Gorilla Paw since, again, crit chance is a low priority stat for me due to its luck factor.
That’s the one I always avoid.
Can’t wait until I have Shackles just to remove Membership’s money debuff. That goes against the idea of completing a stage to begin with.
- Injection Type Asacoco: Sure, that doesn't make sense, until you play Hardcore, than it is fantastic!
- Halu: If you're strong enough and on money run Halu V ist MUST HAVE
- Membership: Great item and the coin loss is non relevant when you make thousands each minute (on a good money run) and the bonus is more than fantastic!
- Shackles: get it and membership for example loses it's disadvantage completely
I don't like it as much as Horns or Sheep.
GWS Pill is great on characters who aren't particularly concerned with saving special for the right moment. And especially amazing on Reine, for whom activating special immediately is actually better. (Her special bar doesn't need you to use the punches before it starts refilling.)
Injection's damn good if you have the healing to nullify the drain - or on hardcore. Or with...
Kusogaki Shackles - combined with stuff like candy, mask, injection or paw makes them damn good.
Credit Card guarantees an extra anvil every X seconds depending on upgrades even if it does not say so on the tooltip. Not always good but put it together with smith gear on Kaela and get your Holy Fire to +40 for the memes.
Membership is absurdly good. Massive stat boost for a tiny coin cost. Even if you take it on the first second and last until min 45 it's barely 8k.
Personally I never take Limiter, GWS, or Piggy Bank. Limiter is just an utterly wasted spot, conditional 25% crit chance is not good even on crit focused characters, and the bank's gold income is pathetically low and pretty worthless. The SPD is good but if I go endless and need to stack SPD I can't afford to waste a spot on something that's neither tankiness, DPS nor Halu.
I have never taken the pill or ninja headband or devil hat or full meal.
Essential items for most runs are glasses, halu, candy the rest is depending on char etc.
Kusogaki Shackles, and Idol Costume are my optionals for specific builds or characters. Kusogaki Shackles makes a "negative" build really REALLY strong, while Idol Costume on very specific characters like Mio and Moona bring the cooldown of their specials down to almost nothing.
In Mio's case, you can just keep spamming your special nonstop with no cooldown if you take it alongside Beetle and/or a certain dish in the HoloHouse that gives special charge when you're hit.
If you take them just for the raw damage, they feel rather underwhelming. But, I suppose they differ from most of the damage-boosting items, in that they don't come with downsides.
Honestly every item is viable depending on the build you're going for.
Halu and Stolen piggy bank is a must for a money run
Kusagaki Shackles turns energy drink, face mask, injection type asacoco, membership and Gorilla's paw into a killer run.
Reine was made for GWS Pill which makes sense, since it is her item.
Credit Card along with Blacksmiths Gear and you will have level 10 weapons easily before the 25 minute mark.
Plushie.
I hate that item.
You take a small part of damage imediately and the rest of it its taken over time.
But you can't heal the damage that hasn't ocurred yet.
So when I picked this thing up, half my health bar was pink, even though I was collecting healing items. Just to lose health anyways.
As for Items:
Plushie, I just don't see the point in delaying damage taken and I can't picture it synergizing with other items
Limiter, Snatching range is... Nice I guess but not enough for me to sacrifice one of my slots
Devil Hat, unless I have Crowbar Lv3 and very high Haste, it does barely anything, and that's IF you have a range character, most other mid/melee range chars gain next to nothing
As for the Skill:
Choco's Charm, Crits making mobs charmed, just the fact that it makes them linger, mix with mobs, avoid being a conduit for crit heals and end up attacking you anyway, is just terrible from my experience
My runs go much better when I avoid taking that Skill
Yeah sure but a lot of Hypers deal damage, so that means during usage, your bar is empty, meaning you get a crit boost anyway right?
The only time I can picture it being useless is if you're sitting on a full bar for whatever reason, or u just don't go for items like Hope Soda, Inject Asacoco or Gorilla's Paw (plus Kusogaki Shackles admittedly)
