What causes item crates to appear?

In some stages, it seems they do not spawn at all (stage 3 and 4) while i have gone a full run in 1 and 2 with barely 3 appearing in the full 20 mins. Would be nice to find them in hopes of stamps instead of waiting last few mins for a certain stamp lol

I don't fully understand it myself since crates are a new thing in 0.6, but it seems that defeating a given amount of enemies (or maybe just time passing) spawns crates off-screen. This is most noticable in Stage 2 when you leave the initial area by going a little to the right. If you return later, you're bound to find a crate or two there.

It seems like they spawn almost entirely in stage 2. I almost never see crates in stages 1, 3 or 4.

I feel it spawns in endless maps only that loop once you go far enough which is map 1 and map 2 (hard versions included)

I've seen crates in all stages, myself. I'm unsure what exactly causes their appearance or determines frequency myself, but it may be a cross between killcount, passage of time and dumb luck (I've seen them as early as minute one, but also gone through entire runs without any).

Wait do you mean the hololive wood crates or hololive cardboard boxes? The cardboard boxes drop from any boss afaik whereas the wood crates are as I mentioned, only on maps that loop around

I've seen crates on Stage 4, which doesn't loop infinitely. But yes, they meant the wooden ones.

I think wooden crates are just random, they probably spawn off screen with some random RNG mechanic, sometimes they're rather useful other times ehh.
