Clownfish has the worst fishing supply to demand ratio
I have the fishing rod that costs 250k sand, enough fish to scrap 600k sand, zero clownfish, and some tier 3 & 4 workers that demand clownfish. Using a downgraded fishing rod to shrink the loot pool doesn't help since you get less fish with a weaker fishing rod.

Edit: It's not that bad, see next comment on page 2.

Yeah, I would suggest the dev actually increase the odds of you getting lower tier fish on higher rods. There aren't even any cooking recipes for the final 2 fish you unlock that I can tell, it would be ok if they were slightly rarer so the common fish weren't so hard to come by. Either that, or have the "helper" NPCs fish up the common fish forever and not upgrade alongside you.

I find it quite amusing that I literally never caught a shrimp in ~100 combo with the Atlantis Rod

I just used wasd space (I did find it a bit easier to use enter on later attempts) and got to 50 on like my 3rd try, then the game started ignoring my inputs and I instantly died, I assume it's just a matter of being familiar with rhythm games, gonna get 100 before long

or just increase the multiplier per catch as the higher tier fishing rods you get

or use lower tier rod to lock what type of fish you want to catch?
Just throwing some idea.

Yeah, as it is now you can either go for rare fish and make sand, or you can raise your employees by fishing with the basic rod.

Maybe they could add bait or something, and you could use that to affect the fish you get, like if you want to catch lower level fish on a higher level rod for the stronger base catch chance

I think it's RNG because a few minutes ago my workers was in need of clownfish and using the first rod I got like 95% of the time shrimp and tuna and after a few minutes later tuna was the demand and using the same basic rod I was catching only shrimp and clownfish :steamhappy:

I would love some sort of bait system. I'm already drowning in crops, so turning that into fishing stuff would be great!

You can go to the Buy Menu and downgrade your rod. The Buy Menu doubles as an Equip Menu, and you can always switch back for sand farming. Just get the Level 1 rod and farm some Clownfish until the Chain/Combo breaks. May as well do this once also to get the 50-Chain achievement done, and once you stockpile a surplus of Clownfish it'll last you until you can hire Gold Star workers at Manager Level 3, which ask for Clownfish less often.

can't you switch from the inventory in the pause menu? I mean they're all listed on the far right tab with the fish you can catch beside them

edit: Candlejacked
In addition to the buy menu, you can also change your equipped rod from the HoloHouse menu, in the inven

Oh, well, whatever works. I assume they function just the same.

Higher cost rods already have better catch yields. The issue is that you probably have like a 1% chance of catching the beginner fish with the later rods, which is very easily fixed by doubling or tripling the chance they show up and taking that percentage away from the fish that are super common with the high tier rods.

The first rod only has 3 fish it can catch. The problem is that when you have the later rods unlocked, you almost never see Shrimp or Clownfish show up but even the highest tier workers ask for them and some food recipes still need them. You can swap rods, but even ignoring that it resets your combo, the beginner rod has terrible yield so it feels bad to spend a million sand on the final rod but still have to swap to the beginner rod sometimes to avoid RNG making you wait a full hour to get a few pieces of Shrimp your workers want.
