Please allow disabling focus mode lock-on/auto-targeting
If playing with a mouse, this feature can be very annoying. I don't need auto-targeting for the focus, I can just point at the machine and track it myself. The auto-targeting frequently loses machines if they're moving, and often targets the wrong machine if multiple are near each other.

i dont mind the auto targeting while im cycling through tagging components but yeah ive had it lock on to one machine when the other is next to it and i cant select the next one without waiting for it to move or changing position

I had more than one case in which it didn't allow me to lock on an enemy because there was a grapple point in the view and that one had higher priority for the focus xD.

Yes having the focus work like in Horizon 1 would be a MAJOR improvement. I see that this was done for console players, but with a mouse I can aim precisley. Especially with big machines that do not have a "solid" body and the middle point of the machine is empty space where no machine is, it is impossible to tag the machine or it's parts.

Also it would dramatically improve tagging riders of mounts.

The behaviour is the same. And just as annoying.
Would indeed improve the gameplay, and have a button to focus on a target to 'inspect the weakpoints' when in stealth. It would probably take a lot of code changes
Yes this auto-locking is sometimes quite annoying.

Why would you want to scan a T-Rex if you can scan a small chest?
I mean it's not like your life depends on it :steamhappy:

Its annoying more often than it isn't, honestly.

Trying to target a Slitherfang for example is beyond futile. It CONSTANTLY loses the target, so it takes you a good 60 seconds just to tag things.

I really wish they'd just allow you to preset these targets in the Notebook menu. You scan one, you go into your menu and picked which components it should highlight, but only if you tag the machine.
Crazy how this game has an almost endless amount of settings, but this isn't one of them. The magnetism of the focus' auto-aim is just way too strong. I have to make a conscience effort to fight against it.

Pretty much this. I tagged a machine that was walking close to another machine and I struggled MIGHTILY trying to shift the focus to the untagged machine. Game refused to let me bc it kept focusing on the tagged machine so I had to just try to keep sights on it until it moved back into sight. Was incredibly aggravating.

Playing FW now and screaming in my head at how frustrating this auto-lock is, it has yet to help me in any way.
Saw a new machine. Tried to scan it. Turns out it's sitting on a green crystal. Scanner refuses to let me look at anything else in that direction. I really hope that whoever designed that got a heavy reminder that any new feature needs a way to turn it off.
