I've had people tell me that they don't understand a lot of computer stuff or care about it. I hope they don't ban the term "stuff".
It's a literal book case on how not to write romance in a multi-installment story arc. But saying that gets you labelled as an *'ist.
I thought it was common sense that you don't write in a canonical romance where the was none, by pulling out a character out of nowhere, and essentially speed-running it to the point of cringe it in what's for all intents and purposes - just before the last third of the story.
Selka would be a lot more palatable if she had the time to grow as a character and on people since the first game, or failing that - at least since base FW. But as it is, she comes out of nowhere, gets rammed down your throat to overcome the latecomer effect, and ends up cringy because her traits are ramped up to eleven to make up for not having an opportunity to grow.
And if anyone is into shipping and romance stuff, they already had a horse in the race and don't appreciate being sunk after two full games, just before the third one in a DLC of all things.
It was always gonna cause a stir, the only reason it gets a pass is because it involves sexual minority, so you can't say anything about it in 2020's, anywhere a feedback might actually be noticed - without stirring up a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ there.
THIS.
The thing is that I didn't have this reaction to Alva, and if she'd been put forward as the love interest I would have said yes. She was also obviously crushing on Aloy and her skill set seemed a better match with Aloy. Don't need two warrior women, Aloy handles that while Alva is more the brainy science/lore type. I like smart women. But, as I said, I just didn't like Seyka and that has nothing to do with her sexual preference.
@Macsoulja Nice projection there, the actual bigotry in the industry is the active withholding of access to funding unless publishers and studios construct their products around specific narratives.
As I played through, it felt to me like Aloy and Seyka were like besties; Aloy is nervous and giddy because she's a dork who's never had a female friend, not really. But in terms of Seyka, they are TOO much alike, if that makes sense.
Honestly, I never liked an ship for Aloyt, until Kotallo. TO me it was ridiculously obvious that he is a perfect counter to her; stable where she is a bit flighty, but also utterly supportive. She lightens him up, he grounds her.
So when I hit the end of Burning Shores, I felt that the 'non-kiss' options were both about her frustration generally. I read it as she was nervous because she really liked having Seyka as a bestie, and started to suspect Seyka would have feels, and didn't want to make a mess of it like she had with Erend. It did not read to me like mutual feels at any point.
When she says she doesn't have time for this, it's her usual lone wolf complex resurfacing. She doesn't have time for ANY of her 'suitors,' be it Erend, Avad, OR Seyka. I like Kotallo precisely because he isn't all up in her face slavering. He just...is himself, and she obviously feels differently about him than she does her other companions, too. She refused help from Varl, Erend, and Avad, yet Kotallo is all like 'I'm coming with you' and she's like 'How can I refuse.' Because he has made it plain he is not making demands is exactly why she feels differently about him. (That's exactly why I see Petra as a better option if they do want to make a f/f canon relationship; she, much like Kotallo, is grounded, and makes no demands despite her plain admiration.)
NOPE, ONLY ONE PATH ALLOWED! All in the name of the "MODERN AUDIENCE."
There is no in-game environment, only the "I IDENTIFY AS CHROMOSONE 66!" obsession some people have.
Well, when it comes to romance options, i prefer to just choose at the end based on who I like most, like on Mass Effect, as a Male Shep, i romance Ashley, as a female Shep, i romance Liara, in Swtor, since Lana Beniko became a thing, i romance her exclusively, since you can romance her as a male or female.
When it comes to Aloy and the sudden lesbian thing, the thing is, how do we know it is sudden?
I mean, a friend of mine has met alot of women that should be good matches for each other, but they just didn't click romantically or sexually, but met someone and it happened very quickly and have been married for over 20 years and while she is a nice person, she doesn't look all that attractive, but she is fun to hang out with when we do movie nights.
Maybe this new npc chick is this for Aloy? who knows, but from what i have heard, you can choose to kiss them or not.
I am not against romance in these games, but sometimes, having someone to fight for, can be a huge motivator to succeed.
It is easy to find a cause worth dying for, but is there a cause worth living for?
MAybe this is her reason to live?
From what i saw from playthroughs it felt like it was different to others, even she mentioned that she has done the same thing to others and it has never bothered her when it negatively affects anyone else, yet it made her feel something when it messed up this new npc's life, so she felt like she needed to fix it for some unknown reason.
Sounds like she was never attracted to Erend or Avad, it seemed more like a brother sister thing for Aloy when it came to Erend, though i suspect Erend wants more.
when it comes to Avad, it seemed like he wanted her, but she didn't seem to return those feelings, not really.
When it comes to this new girl however, in the playthroughs, i saw the difference in how she reacted to her treatment and response to Aloy's actions and it affected her differently than any other person she has negatively affected or seen mistreated.
It sounds more like, she has never been romantically interested in anyone.......not so far until this new npc, hence why it could look so sudden?
Anyway, as long as there is a choice, i am fine with it.
Because, in Life is Strange: True Colors, you can actively choose if Alex is straight, Bi or Gay in a conversation and i like that, it means WE can choose if OUR Alex is straight, bi or gay, that is the best possible thing to do in EVERY game that has romance options in it.
